This is a special Burning Wheel Arena of Death event.

To baptize the Revised Edition in blood, I'm offering to ref a special Orcs-only arena combat contest.

Character Restrictions:
• Must be created using the Revised Edition Preview Orcs Chapter. (http://www.burningwheel.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=8)
• Must be 4-6 lifepaths
• May not have skills higher than exponent 4.
• May not have gray skills or stats.
• May not have a mount or bring a wolf into the arena.
• May not bring a WHIP into the arena.
• May not take specialist Martial Arts from the Character Burner.

Characters may:
• Have stats of any exponent (there's no starting limit; I dare you to Min-Max with the Orcs).
• Take Spoils of War
• May use bows and other dirty fightin' weapons
• May be Servants of the Dark Blood
• May use poison

Special Orc Arena Mechanics Updates

• Positioning Mechanics are preferred, but BW Classic can be requested.

• FoRKs: All FoRKs must be justified with a full sentence of color/description.

• The Cold Black Blood Arena will have fixed geography. A drawing will be posted before the matches begin.

• Matches will be scored (I'll post the criteria later). Highest scoring character/player will win a prize: Either a t-shirt if you want or you may choose any artist from the Revised edition to do a quarter page of your character tearing the heart out of your opponent.

• Brutal Life is required. 5 LP Orcs are automatically missing digits. 6 LP Orcs are Missing Digits and Lame in the leg. This means they also automatically get +1 and +2 Hatred respectively.

• Lower LP Orcs will receive a point bonus for engaging higher LP Orcs. I'll post more on that later.

• Victorious characters will be invited to participate in special bonus rounds.

• Revised Trait Mechanics: All traits listed on a character's lifepaths cost 1 pt. These are lifepath traits. The first lifepath trait is required, just like the first skill is required. Remaining trait points may be spent on special traits as per the standard trait-buying rules.

The contest will run for the next 5-6 weeks. You may submit characters immediately. I'll post the scoring sheet and arena shortly.

<smartass>Can I have a Master of Eight who brings his pets?</smartass>

Thomas

DAMN IT! I knew I forgot something. I forgot to allow Masters of Eight to be able to buy the Secret of Eight via the Great Spider Resources list. I thought of it for Spoils of War, but then said, "Nah, Spiders don't get any gear, what's the point."

Damn it!
Oh well.

Masters of Eight may take and cast the Secret of Eight in the arena. Good luck with that.

Cold Black Blood Scoring System

Entering the match with a 2 LP handicap: +10 pts
Entering the match with a 1 LP handicap: +5 pts
Winning the match with a 2 LP handicap: +5 pts
Winning the match with a 1 LP handicap: +3 pts

Clans and Warbands
Clans and Warbands can be brought to the match to cheer for their blood brother in the arena. Clans add their affiliation dice to any Intimidation tests made by their brother in the arena.
1D clan affiliation costs 10 rps, 2D costs 25 rps, 3D costs 45 rps.

Reputation counts!
Resource points spent on Reputation are added to the Orc's final points total for all his matches.
A 1D Reputation costs 7rps, 2D costs 20 rps, 3D costs 40 rps.
The Reputation bonus increases by 1 pt for each match, 2 pts for each victorious match.

Reputation is new mechanic in the Revision. I'm debating on ways to incorporate the dice into arena play.

Pretty Pretty
I'm toying with the idea of having your highest point piece of gear subtracted from your match points total by way of handicapping 50 or 60 rp pieces of Spoils of War (aka Elven Armor). I haven't decided on this one yet.

Popularity Contest
Winning the Match Poll: +2 pts.

In the Ruk
First to draw blood: +1 pt
Knocking your opponent off his feet: +2 pts
Causing your opponent to make a Steel test (even if he passes): +2 pts
Successfully casting a spell in the arena: +2 pts
Successful Feint vs C/S or Block: +1 pt

Causing Injuries:
Superficial wound: +5 pts
Light Wound: +10 pts
Midi: +15 pts
Severe: +20 pts
Traumatic: +25 pts
Mortal: +35 pts

Sissy Points
Failed Steel tests subtract from the sissy's match points.
Actual amount depends on the reaction chosen:
Stand and Drool: -2 pts
Swoon: -1 pt
Fall Prone: -3 pts
Run Screaming: -10 pts

Bottom of the Barrel
Point totals per match can only go as low as zero. Losing a match badly will not subtract from multiple match totals.

Comments?
(Sorry for deleting all you posts, but I want to keep this thread clean.)

Do you actually get any points for winning the match?

No, there is no additional bonus for actually winning. The goal is really to tear your opponent apart -- prolonging his agony for as long as possible.

We felt that getting additional points for causing a Mortal Wound in the first volley was too much.

But now that you ask, maybe a point or two bonus for winning wouldn't be such a bad idea.

I don't get this. Could you expand a bit? Resrouce points are added to the Orc's what total? And what are the Dice used for? And is that bonus to the bonus Dice or to the total Resource Points spent?

Will ceremonial Servant weapons be superior-quality, or simply ornate?

Can a Troll Lord purchase Trolls, and if so will that have any Arena-specific effect?

LOL. No, Trolls. He may purchase affiliations like other characters. His affiliations may be with Troll Legions.

EDIT: I edited the scoring post.

I was under the impression (from some thread or other) that in BW Revised the first trait on a lifepath was free and the rest cost 1 pt each. Not so?

Does Missing Digits do something different in the Revision?

luke

no. just a character trait.

Nope. If it's listed on your lifepaths, it costs one point. The first one listed is required, the rest are optional. You must still pay the 1 point, even for required traits.

Talk to me about character death, maiming, and other such things. How does all that work? Do you get to loot your defeated opponents?

two things:

1st, I had hoped that the CCB arena would NOT be a munchkin fest. I was hoping for a little more originality and scrappiness. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to institute the following:

In the CCB there may only be one of each type of LP combinations. If, for example, a character is posted with the "Born Great, The Rites, Follower, Black Destroyer, Named, Great One" lifepaths, no other posted character may have that particular lifepath combination. Order doesn't matter, it's the actual lifepaths. Individual or even multiple LP combinations may be repeated in other characters, but no other character may have those six/five/four lifepaths.

2nd: You can loot your opponent, but you must donate give your current equipment to the lowest ranked combattant in the contest.

For the record, I so had that planned out before I saw jc's post. Ah well, fair's fair. Back to the drawing board...
