O the agony! The anxiety! The unending void of the unknown!
Will Arjan be slain on the beach or will the elf maiden's blood feed the mighty ocean?
Will it never end?
sorry about the delay, gentlemen. I didn't want to post while the forums were wonky. Should be ok now, so I'll get right on it.

Per cannon rules, do wound penalties affect Reflexes as well? We always play that they do but I'm not sure if that's "official"

Yes, but not until we script again. (otherwise it's a triple fuck to get wounded.)

Wow! Your funky dice strike again, Abzu! This is great! I think the elf lass is going to pull it out in the third volley, but we shall see.
The dice were pretty well behaved on this one. Though I detected a distinct air of favoritism for Arjan. When I fired the pistol they jumped all over the room and I had to chase them around. When I through them back onto the mousepad they skittered off onto the sides and came to a rest point up. It was like herding jumping beans.
I figured I'd roll a 1 on the DoF for the pistol malfunction. I was surprised when the thing actually fired.
I was doubly surprised when the DoF came up a 5 for damage.
Triply so when I realized that the Elf witch is still going to pull this off. Neil, you're still the underdog here!

She's got a base hesitation of 2? Wicked woman. At least she lost three dice now to even out Reflexes and Steel and Positioning tests.
Hesitation of 2? Huh? Her hesitation is 4, as I noted in the volley breakdown. The real crime is Thomas took a Steel of B10 for her.

But lost dice ups the hesitation... Losing 3D means the hesitation Ob rises by two (p. 116 of Burning Wheel under "Steel and Wounds").

Sorry. In Revised, the triple fuck you of failing a Steel test has been removed. You suffer minus dice to Steel to meet the same obstacle as always. Though the GM is at more liberty to modify that obstacle this time around.

Actually, I'm not sure about my survival here at all... -3 Dice is a big deal... Though I must admit that it is sort of my fault, I was silly and didn't grab Shield Training and a Shield, which might have made a big difference.

Ouchie.
Ha! I thought so. Out of curiosity though, why did Arjan Hesitate this Volley? Had he previously forfeited to change Actions earlier in the Exchange?

Yes, Arjan forfeited an action and used his Artful Dodger trait in order to pull off his 2nd volley shot.

Ah, cool. Kublai and I had been trying to point out when stuff like that happened so that our generous viewers at home could follow along and get a feel for what's happening mechanically.

Ah, but the abzu's ways are mysterious and not to be understood.

It was kind of an all or nothing strategy. I was really just kind of saving the Artful Dodger for a bad roll on the Princesses part - then I was going to try to capitalize on it by switching up actions.
So when the failed Positioning test popped up in Volley 1, I switched up one of my Volley 2 actions for free via Artful Dodger - it became Acquire Target.
And then in order to get a shot off in the same Volley, I used the Standard forfeit rules to change my Volley 2, Action 2 to Fire by surrending my Volley 3 action.
I knew if she lived through the blast, I'd be standing sun-blinded and dumbstruck on the beach...so there you go.

Boo! Hiss! No regrets, you're a pirate for chrissakes! Put the wench down and think of some whitty comment from which to save face for even letting the woman even touch you!
I'm a little bias though, looks rough for my boy here.

And it was a good strategy F&W, I only wish Jack Calgary would have had as much luck with the pistola as you did. Unfortunately the reciprocating strike from the cheatin' elf probly dun ya in.

Looks like FoxandWarlock conceded. He's Hesitating for 1.5 Exchanges while the elven vegematic carves him up like a pig.

I think I'm going to script a Close, Charge, and then a series of unarmed strikes. Knock the filthy, pathetic little man down and then kick him over and over, that'll teach him.

Whoa, whoa. Don't be so hasty here.
Let's not forget the time-honored cowardly trick of...
PLAYING DEAD!
(or fainting dead away per BW rules).
