I'm running an online game on RPoL for pema and a few others, and pema and I came up with this idea for an additional troll setting...

Time Res Stat Leads Skills Traits
Coral Born 5 2 2g 2
Traits: Amphibion, Webbed

Time Res Stat Leads Skills Traits
Reef 10 2 P 1 1
Skills: Camoflauge, Derelect-wise, Reef-wise
Traits: Kelp-beard

Time Res Stat Leads Skills Traits
Fisher of Men 7 2 M/P 2 1
Skills: Bait-wise, Boat-wise

Time Res Stat Leads Skills Traits
Flotsam 13 1 M 1 2
Skills: Current-wise, Swimming
Traits: Floaty, Solitary

Time Res Stat Leads Skills Traits
Jetsam 7 1 p 3 2
Skills: Shore-wise, Fishing Village-wise, Intimidation
Traits: Brute, Sensitive Hearing, Mamma's Boy
Prerequisites: Must be third or later lifepath

Time Res Stat Leads Skills Traits
Wrecker 4 3 P 2 0
Skills: Climbing, Brawling, Anchor-wise
Prerequisite: Flotsam or Fisher of Men or Reef

I haven't worked out leads, and the prerequisites are shakey, and most of the life paths were just cribbed from the Born Wild lifepaths. But still, could be fun. Additionally, instead of Tough Skin, they get Barnacled, which has the same effect, but requires them to be thoroughly wetted every 12 hours or take a superficial wound.

Musing with adding a Deep One lifepath, with Addled and Summoning. Troll summoners - bad idea.

I love the Beowulf vibe.

Amphibian DT - As Fish Lung
Kelp Beard Cos
Floaty DT - Most trolls sink like stone. This one can blow himself up like a pufferfish, and bob about.
Sensitive Ears DT - +1D to Perception for hearing, but is aggravated by loud noises. Especially partying.
Mamma's Boy - Relationship with Mom.

And glad you like it! And yeah, impossible to do Sea Trolls without making a Grendel lifepath.

Heehee, this is fun!

Deep One 17yrs 2rps +1P
2: Deeps-wise, Sunken Things-wise
1: Farwalker, Hungry
Requires that the starting age be at least 50(?)

Great Old One 30yrs 4rps -
3: Things That Are Best Left Forgotten-wise, Drowned Civilization-wise, Circination, Summoning
1: Circular Logic, Massive Stature
Requires Deep One

Farwalker(Ch) There is a lot of empty down in the deeps, and some vague curiosity keeps this troll trekking through it.

Hungry(Ch) How long since you last ate...? You feel like you could eat a whale.

Circular Logic(Ch) The strange arts and relics of sunken civilizations have spurred a kind of thought in this troll's mind, but all of his statements loop obsessively, insanely back on themselves.

I love this idea!

Fisher of Men...drool....

He should have Fishing (with special obs for children and adults). Maybe an Exotic Weapons skill if you want go full bore -- trident and net, anyone?

Traits should be inserted into all of the LPs: Webbed Feet (+1D Speed underwater), Gills, Slimy Skim (+1 Ob to Lock or Push troll), Sight of the Shark, Crushing Jaws, Fins (+2D to Speed underwater), Ridged Back, Mottled Scales (c-o for Stealthy under or near water at night)

The fisher would have to have Patient or something.

I'm reminded of Alan Lee's Kelpie, which is the awesomest thing ever.

I'm so delighted everyone likes this idea. I must admit, these are the first lifepaths I've ever burned, and I'm still figuring out the kinks. I tried not to add too many Traits, because most of the Troll LPs I saw were relatively trait poor, but I'll certainly add more - or possibly just burn up non-lifepath traits - trolls have lots of them.

Luke: Fishing is a great skill. I love it. And trident and net is also fantastic!

pema: I love those two lifepaths... but I was thinking it would be really cool if the deep ones started exhibiting traits of the really weird deep-sea fish... luminescent fleshy lures, echolocation, blindness/light sensitivity...

I was also thinking of a few different born lifepaths, with traits that would help differentiate between swamp things, lake monsters, and salt water coral trolls.

BW vanilla trolls are designed to be very open. I want you to be able to build unique trolls through deep trait selections.

So for these guys, it's almost like they should be a subsetting that you have to be born into, maybe you can get out of it via just a few paths.
