For those who think knights don't get enough loving (like me :D ), I present Master Equestrian, for fine knights, swashbucklers, and indians everywhere.
Master Equestrian
This skill represents truly heroic riding, such as only the greatest knights achieve. It should probably only be available to a starting character via general points.
Basic moves
EquestrianMaster Equestrian is used in place of riding skill for all purposes.
Riding Mastery
FoRK with all physical abilities while mounted.
I can ride that
May be used to ride any creature that can normally acquire riding training
Special Moves
Ob 2 Vault into the saddle
The Master Equestrian may, with a short running start, vault into his saddle in a single action. This skill may also be used when jumping down onto a horse, replacing speed.
Ob 3 Lance Mastery
When executing a lance charge, he may use the Power of the horse as the Base Power of the lance charge. He can also use the martial art rather than lance skill for the attack.
Ob 4 Unparalleled Control
The Master Equestrian is now so in control of his mount that he gets a free command mount tandem action per exchange.
Ob 4 Trick Riding
The rider is now so sure in his ability to swing about in his saddle that he suffers no penalty for avoiding, and receives helping dice from the mounts speed if it is also avoiding. In addition, no extra obstacle penalties accrue for doing things like grabbing a ring off the ground.
Ob 5 Vault into someone else saddle
This is a tandem action with close. It involves leaping from one horse to another, or grabbing on from on foot and vaulting into the saddle. It works as a test of the Master vrs opponents Speed. If he gets more successes or ties, he now counts as Inside and Behind his opponent. From there he can lock, throw, etc. If he has fewer successes, he counts as falling of a horse.
Ob 5 Zorro
Zorro like ability to tell your horse were to go remotely through whistles or some other signals. The horse must be trained to do this. An attempt to train the horse takes a week, and is an Ob 3 test versus its perception. Master Equestrian may be used for helping dice, as may Animal Handler or other applicable skills. Commands take an action, and may not be free actions from Unparalleled Control or Inhuman Control, and are as normal against the horses will. Add obstacles based on distance.
Ob 6 Clash of Wills
As a mount-command type action, the rider may test his Equestrian Mastery against his mounts. If he gets more successes than the mount does, the mounts will is reduced by the margin of success. The mounts Will cannot be reduced below 1 in this fashion. If he fails, an untrained mount will try to throw him (speed vrs Equestrian Mastery – treat the results like a throw). These tests are not cumulative – only the best result is used if multiple Clashes of Will are initiated.
Ob 7 Bucking Bronco
The rider is so good, even wild mounts can easily be brought to heel. There is no double obstacle for lack of rider training in mount.
Ob 8 Ride Anything
The Master Equestrian is now so skilled he can even ride beasts not suited to riding – musk oxen, bears - even griffons and dragons! You still don’t suffer a double obstacle penalty, but good luck getting the dragon to do anything!
Ob 8 Inhuman Control
The Master Equestrian is now has a freakish ability to control his mount – it is almost as if they were one. He receives a free tandem mount-command per volley, and the mount acts in the same action (if it has one that action), rather than on it’s next action.
So what do you think? Much thanks are due to Thomas, who supplied many ideas and suggestions.
