Would the burning wheel combat system be suitable for simulating in a computer program?
One element of the program should consist visual representation of the battle. What I mean is that the program should show the characters in the actual battlefield. So the position of each character should be accurate and known. The question is, does from the burning wheel combat system could you know what is the accurate position of each character?
and in general, would you think the BW combat system would be suitable for a computer game?
sure. I think it would be fun. But I have bizarre taste in such things.
I imagine it would play out something like FALLOUT did. So if you liked that, it'd be cool. If you hated it, multiply that by 100 and you'll come close to your feelings about such a thing.
Also, Trial, "The Burning Wheel" forum is for questions about BW game mechanics. This thread has been moved to the Sea of Abzu.

Yeah, I can see it playing out much like any turn-based combat game, except that you would queue up multiple actions per turn instead of one.

You know... I can see the combat being very much like FALLOUT... which I have to admit I only liked a little bit.
The thing is, I think the rest of the Burning Wheel system (advancement, BITS, etc) would be ultra cool in a CRPG. It would certainly be more intuitive than many CRPGs I play now.
Luke, in your voluminous spare time, would you mind awfully writing a beautifully rendered, immersive, one-player computer version of Burning Wheel tailor made for me? I'm sure I've got enough pocket change to make it worth your while! ;)

Just my opinion, but I don't really think Burning Wheel combat would translate well to the computer simulation model. Sure, the script language could be used and that would make a fair system (charge. avoid, push, great strike, counter-strike), but you'd lose that beautiful battle fluidity that makes Burning Wheel combat so great.
For example, in a wrestling competition we had a week or so back, the champion kicked the young upstart in the groin (As GM, I ruled it a -1 on die rolls for the next three volleys) and then threw sand in the guy's eyes (+1 obstacle on physical rolls until the person spent two actions clearing his eyes).
I'm not sure these sort of "anything can be tried" actions could be done in a computer game and combat would have to take a few steps back toward Dungeons and Dragons d20 simplicity.
Also, healing would probably have to be reworked to make the game more mainstream-friendly. Few folks would want to have to wait a few months after a big battle before fighting again if they do a traumatic wound.
Still, the other dice pool stuff could be simulated and I think Elven spell songs (At least some) would translate well.
But generally, I'd say streamlining Burning Wheel in order to make it into a computer game would lose much of its best aspects.

You think I could buy a bagel and some OJ with that? If so, I'm on it!
Wait! What am I thinking. I don't do this for the money. I do this for the love. Keep your pocket lint and canadian nickels. I do this for YOU!

Okay, that would be great, Abzu.
I'd also like you to talk to Black Isle get the engine they used for Baldur's Gate. I think that would work best with the game. I'm sure they will be totally cool with licensing once you explain the situation. And be sure to put a paper manual in the box with the game. I hate games that are too cheap to print a manual!

Hey Fox;
Wouldn't that be a copy of the new version?
