I thought that I'd throw together a few extra peasant lifepaths that aren't obviously adaptable from the ones that Luke has already created. I tried to avoid easy ones missing from the books, like "Cobbler." Instead I tried to pick ones that have a bit of flavour to them.

This is the first few of several sets of lifepaths that I plan to throw together.

All commentary is welcome.

Perhaps this doesn't fit into the Peasant category, but I wanted to post this under some really good looking paths to attract the attention of their creator, so that he/she may take this idea and run with it.

Kennel Master

Basically a breeder of hunting, guard or war hounds. Probably fits into the noble or village subsetting best, though I can see it being good background for soldier too.

What do people think?

I was told that the Animal Husbandry skill covers animal training and such, so any Kennel Master, Falconer, Groom lifepaths should include this skill. I would definitely like to see specific LPs for these handlers!

I would put it in village dwelling...

although he would have high resources to emulate his involvements in the great hunts no noble would be caught dead handling dogs :)

I will have to look at the CB later to make a better estimation of the stats but this would be a cool lifepath :)

I would think these Handlers would be more likely found in the Noble Court Setting. Peasants don't have time to go on such extravagant hunts!

Not only for extravagent hunting, but for practical things too.

Not as a peasant. I said villager.

They would be part of a merchant class , no doubt.

They would probably have a lead to Noble Court but I don't think one would start in the Noble Court as a handler.

Villagers, peasants... all the same to me! Just rabble that I need to suppress from getting too uppity.

Anyway, I suppose Handlers could also be placed in the Servitude Setting instead of Noble Court. I imagine starting out as a Farmer, becoming a Hunter, and then finding a job as a Dog Handler for some local lord.

I think that is right on the mark...

...your lordship

probably two "handler" lifepaths.

Master of the Hounds in Noble Court. Remember Court includes people from all the estates.

And Kennel Master for Villager. Though I don't see the precedent for a Village Kennel Master. In my research, I've found that dog packs were owned by nobility who could afford to feed and house them. Whereas a peasant or villager might own a dog or two as a pet, there was no cultural or economic need to have a centrally located kennel to farm out packs of dogs. Weren't "wild" dogs considered vermin and frequently hunted and exterminated in the middle ages?

Can anyone site some research for me? I would be happy to amend my perceptions if I am wrong.

I think you're right, luke. I was seeing the noble court master as a lower born person, so it kindda looked village-ish to me. Though research shows that the nobles were the ones who kept the hunting packs.

Unless the fantasy world is different than our middle ages

Unless the fantasy world is different than our middle ages

Yes, completely viable. But in that case--since the Burner is SOMEWHAT historical--post him up with that caveat: "This is the Kennel Master from my campaign. In our storyline villages keep hunting dogs in order to defend themselves from the skaven that haunt the marshes nearby..." Etc, etc.

That way we can include these LPs in our campaigns with their purpose and utility in mind.

Wow, what with all the cool new lifepaths popping up, plus stuff like the new Artha system and the mass combat rules, I think Luke is going to have to put out an "expansion burner" sooner or later to bring all this neat stuff into one place.

Then again, given that the basic set is selling like hotcakes (so I hear), we may see a reprint of that sooner than expected...

Repritn - that would be just great, with all those con apperances this is possible in much shorter amount of time than we all thought. :)
