So you know that I play with a hardcore D20 group every weekend. We typically play 12-14 hours every saturday night. When we are down a player I run an alternate game. I have TRIED and TRIED and TRIED to get the them to just LOOK at BW but they wont have it, they are totally anti-anying not DnD. Sigh..... So they ask me to run the game this weekend because one of our main players will be out of town. The idea hits me.... BITs they're easy to port into other systems without adding any rules headaches and they force players to get into the mindset of their characters. I ran the idea by all of them (without telling them it was from BW, I'll end up giving you credit later Luke but for now I don't want to scare them off) They were WAY excited they thought the idea of BITS sounded cool (especially the guy who usually get's caught with his shield down, the Instincts part really got him happy). So that's my plan to slowly introduce BW mechanics to D20. If they like it the next game I run I'll add bits AND scripted combat. At some point I drop the bomb and say "Hey guys did you notice we're not playing DnD anymore?"

I'm pretty sure they'll notice they're not playing DnD anymore when you bust out the scripting mechanic.

Good luck with your Philistines though!

Absolutely. I suggest bringing in Artha before you bring in scripting. Especially as it dovetails so well with BITs...

Try taking away all of the dice and replacing them with d6s. :)

jc,

the core conceit about BITs is that they tie directly into the rewards mechanic. If you really want to flip their wigs, don't give out XP for killin or lootin. Only give it out for triggering events centered around Beliefs or Instincts.

Otherwise, BITs are just window dressing.

Good ideas all around. I think I'll use abzu's suggetstion for having BI based XP awards and probably introduce Artha next as also suggested. We already use something like Artha called "Skulls" (they're little plastic beads that are black skulls with red eyes). Every game session that a player shows up on time they recieve a skull, 1 skull nets a +2 bonus to an attack, damage, or savign throw roll OR 1 skull is a +1 bonus after the roll has already been made, FIVE skulls is a max hit die at next level. So switching over probably wont be hard. I know it's technically not BW yet but would you like to see a post about how the game went when it's done?
