I am still awaiting my revised copy of Burning Wheel, but I had a thought- do the rules for Duel of Wits seem like they might apply to the negotiations involved in summoning, or are summoned beings to alien to be a part of a Duel of Wits?
I am curious b/c I have summonings coming up soon. In the game of course.

oh yes. The revised summoning chapter is going to rock. Bargaining with the Named is going to be one very deadly Duel of Wits!

I've never really cared for summoning style magic systems, but that really sounds cool!

The Burning Wheel summoning system is awesome. I think BW's magic system is on par with Ars Magica in terms of quality, and the summoning is terrific. It is dangerous and powerful, and it does not take the character out of the magic. It is flexible, practical and atmospheric too.
I love abstraction, too, but something about the summoning just screams "as powerful as it is dangerous, as dangerous as it is powerful".
Can you tell I am psyched about BE's magic?
I am tinkering with summoning to see if can be used for a villainous necromancer to contact spirits of the dead. I wonder if there will be necromancy in the Magic Burner?

Considering that in Luke's own campaign there is a very necromantic cabal of summoners, I'd say inclusion of necromancy in the MB is very likely!
