If an elf fails a spell song, it takes up the normal amount of actions and then does nothing, right? But what if they're doing something like Song of the Sword? Do they use the let it ride rule or can they try to sing an alternative version of the song, say, adding to VA instead of power? I guess this could be a general question for all skills, attributes, and stats.
Also, as a side note when you sing Voice of Ages, they stop singing so they can perform the duel of wits, right?

There is no effect to failing to sing a song properly. As soon as you finish, you can try again - even the exact same song. I would never hold a player to the Let it Ride rule in the case of casting magic.

Skill Songs are subject to the Let It Ride Rule. For Spell Songs like Song of the Sword, we allow players to try again after a failed attempt. However, we always make the player wait until the number of Actions have been spent for the song to take effect.
So, for instance, your elf character is singing Song of the Sword for Crushing Edge. That costs 4 Actions. You script Song of the Sword as a Tandem Action during scripting. On your 4th Action, you roll for the Song. If you fail, you can try again so long as you continue to script Song of the Sword as a Tandem Action. You'll get to roll again for the Song on your 8th Action.
Because Songs are Tandem Actions, you can do them while doing something else. So you do not have to stop singing Voice of Ages during the Duel of Wits. In fact, if you stop Singing it, you are no longer Sustaining it and the spell ends.

Also remeber even if song test have failed, wonderment effect is still working

Hmmmm...I asked about the Voice of Ages because I thought it would be impossible to say something while singing, or does the elf sing his arguement?

Hmm... I always considered a Singing elf incapable of speaking normally as he is singing. Now I'm not really sure. :?

The Voice of Ages song is specifically designed to be used during the Duel of Wits. I sort of see it as using The Voice in Dune. But Luke also noted that it lasts through the duration of one Duel of Wits, so if you don't like that, just assume he sings it and the effect lingers for the Duel of Wits.

there's always an exception... and Voice of Ages clearly states that its effects last through the duration of a Duel of Wits.

According to the revised Character Burner, pg 98:
"When the Elf has sung for a number of exchanges equal to his victim's Will, the player should test his song ability. If it is sung successfully, all those susceptible within his Presence should make a Steel test with hesitation modified by the margin of success..."
This seems to indicate that the song MUST be sung successfully. The first edition seems to have the same rule.

Ok I might be wrong, but when You fail the song test, margin of success is 0. So then all in his presence are testing their unmodified Steel, right?
