I may be way off, but as I read through the posts here in the Fevered Circle, I think I'm seeing a priority/question split in the topics presented.

On one hand, we have the group problems, social stuff, and game structure pitfalls. On the other, we have questions about introducing the group to Burning Wheel style mechanics.

I think the second hand there is as important as the first, but I don't think most of us are identifying it as an issue to be addressed.

Judd (Paka) came right out and asked, "how do I keep players who are interested in certain mechanics entertained in BW?" Pretty straightforward.

Whereas Mike (Mickeroo) is struggling with a number of issues. Though he hasn't specifically asked, I think one of the answers he's looking for is how to draw players into BW's mechanics. The posts about monsters, challenge rating and the fumblings with the character concept say, to me, that his group isn't quite sure what's going to happen once the dice start rolling.

We in ye olde Circle of Elders seem to have a hard time spotting this. 'Cause when we give advice about Beliefs, we're assuming near-perfect understanding of the system. When we make a character, every number on the sheet points to the concept. That's fine for us, but it doesn't help you none!

SO, that all said, let's keep our eyes peeled for this divide. Game structure vs game mechanics. Both are relevant topics for the Fevered Circle. I have TONS of advice for getting players comfortable with the system, so that when it comes time to sharpen a concept, they know what the numbers mean. Just like Thor will brow beat you about refining Beliefs until you're black and blue.

rock on.
