I'm a little confused on the difference between Workhorse and MVP. I haven't played enough to test it, but it would seem that these two would often go hand in hand and more often than not be awarded to the same player, is that what happens?

Also, is embodiment just a more extreme case of the ways you can earn Fate (Beliefs, Instincts, and Traits?) For example, when a character plays a belief, they get Fate, but when they really play into a belief, they get a Persona point? Or is it more of a general roleplaying?

Workhorse is not for the guy that gets the glory at the end (that's the MVP). The Workhorse is the guy that's always right there with the right skill to give everyone else a Helping Die, the guy that everyone else relies on to make them look good.

MVP is for the guy that pulls it all together. When you all fail your Steel tests, he's the guy that pulls it out with some Persona Points and then spends the Deeds point to stab the Daemon in the eye and keeps it busy while the rest of you finish Hesitating.

These two awards should never go to the same two players. Also, you don't always have to give these awards.

Embodiment is the 'roleplaying' award. It grants a Persona point, not a Fate point. It's all about capturing the feel at the table and making everyone say "Yeah, when you did that, it totally rocked!" You never get it for just grandstanding. You have to legitimately drive the game forward.

I'll give you an example: in the dwarf game I've spoken about before, we knew that when we found the High King's Hall, we'd figure out which clan had betrayed the High King's oath in ancient days -- which clan was the oathbreaker clan. When we got there we were ready to crown Dan's character as the new High King. And then the evidence showed that Dan's clan had been the oathbreakers.

My character called for punishment. He would take the arm that had committed the oathbreaking. Without hesitation, Dan said, 'I hold out my arm. Take it!'

We chopped off his arm, considered it atonement for his clan's deeds, and crowned Dan's character High King. Dan got a Persona point for Embodiment because of that.

Does that help?

Yeah, that clarifies it. Thank you.
