I'm making up a character who's an opium addict. I was going to base it off Drunk, requiring a Steel test to resist getting high. I was also going to tack on an Ob 2 Resource Management test.
The character will have to make a series of linked Health tests to get off the junk.

Would it be Steel or a straight Will check?

The Drunk trait has it be a Steel test, so I was just going with that.
I personally don't like testing Stats.

Thing is, testing Steel means that Steel is going to advance, which means that a hardcore addict is going to develop a high Steel more quickly than a non-addict. Isn't opium addiction going to make someone more prone to fail a steel check, not less so?

You can raise the obstacle as steel raises. FOr every 1D they gain, raise obstacle by 1. Since it takes, on average, 2D to make an OB test, this is a slow loss for the addict.

Most characters have a decent Steel (4 or 5) so unless you're going to dish out Ob 3+ addiction rolls, it's mostly going to be Routines.

But then the addiction isn't too hard to overcome. I would make it harder as the character relies on it more. Maybe have a seperate stat for it.
