This past weekend, I was in Maine for their annual Lobster Festival.
- 8 hour drive from NYC on Friday morning.
- Greeted in Rockland, Maine by rain and cold wind.
- Ate 3 lobsters and a pile of steamers.
- Saturday was much nicer. Lots of fun, games, and music. Ate 5 lobsters and a pile of fried shrimp. Watched the Blind Rowboat Race. Laughed a lot!
- Before eating the lobsters, there was a pancake breakfast and was a small town parade. Think about the people in the movie "Groundhog Day." It was a refreshing attitude of general communal celebration and good will. I found myself swept up in the excitement and got my picture taken with the Sea Goddess, King Neptune, and Blackbeard the pirate.
- I won my girlfriend a lobster doll from a carnie - the ball toss where you have to knock down 2 of those fuzzy faces with only 2 balls. I aimed for the 1st one and miraculously knocked it down. I then aimed for the one to its left, threw, and knocked over the one two rows down and one over. Certainly, this was the intervention of Cthulu to impress my lady!
- I also won her one of those big, flower thingies in the squirt the water in the hole games.
- The Neville Brothers played in the background.
- Sunday was nice, too. We went to the breakwaters and walked out 1 mile to a lighthouse. Very scenic and exactly what "small, Maine lobster town" means to you.
- Left for NYC Sunday at 2pm. Got to NYC near 10:30pm. Got home at 11:30 after picking up some McNuggets. I like the new recipe.
- Today I am wearing my Lobster Festival t-shirt and I am pissed that the photo place closed early so I can't see my pics until tomorrow.
