So, a while back I made up Elias, the Barley Knight, as a young sword prodigy under BW Classic. I decided to give him a go under the Revised edition and he came out QUITE different. Since I was taking the Child Prodigy trait I would only be afforded 2 Lifepaths maximum. The basic premise of the character is such:
At a young age the burly armorer could see that his son had a rare gift when it came to weilding a sword. The boy was tall and agile for his age, and showed signs early on that he would be a great warrior. Not wishing to see these god given gifts squandered the smith presented the boy to Captain Garrek, an old friend of his with whom he served with in the militia as a boy, in hopes that he could be taken on and trained proper in the ways of warfare. Seeing the boys raw skill the captain agreed to take him on and train him. Elias is young, eager, inexperienced and idealistic, but most of his fellow soldiers agree that if these traits don't get him killed he will go far in their bloody profession.

It might be interesting to make an instinct that might reflect his youth and the fact that he is more trained than experienced. Maybe something like "Never hit anyone in the head or face" to reflect all that wooden sword training.

It might be interesting to make an instinct that might reflect his youth and the fact that he is more trained than experienced. Maybe something like "Never hit anyone in the head or face" to reflect all that wooden sword training. Agreed. What I was going for was a kid who's heard too many stories of heroes fighting giants, traitors and beasts who has taken them too much to heart. He hears the clans men talk of the ideal warrior and believes that's what a warrior should embody. So his instincts were meant to jive with that.

Examples;
When combat starts I will draw my sword. [Heroes don't hesitate to meet a challenge. Once the battle is met it's time to meet the battle, and so his first instinct is to go for his sword, because a hero always uses his best weapon. Of course if I'm stuck in a dark tunnel with no room to move and Grendel is breathing down my neck on the inside I'm fucked, because my knife is the better choice of armament. Or, if I'm in a shield wall and people are using their spears I'm at a disadvantage there as well. But inexperience and too many stories have rammed it in his head how to react. ]

I will always keep my sword sharpened and in good order. [As the son of a blacksmith and armorer proper care for one's equipment was probably drilled into my head from the time I knew what armament was, so this one seemed perfect. ]

At the beginning of combat I will always assess my opponents armor for weak points. [ How was Smaug defeated? One arrow through an open patch of skin. How was the cyclops beaten? One stone through it's eye. How was Achilles killed? An arrow through his Achilles heal. How was Baldur killed? By an arrow made of the one item he had no immunity against; Mistletoe. Old tales are repleat with this sort of imagery of that one vulnerable spot deciding the battle. Brugyn has bought them hook line and sinker. Fortunately this is pretty sound logic in a fight too. Of course anyone who fights him more then once will see the pattern of his Assessing right at the beginning and take advantage of it.]
