View Full Version : Tridents

A character in my game is a knight serving the Sea God, Atrigon, so he decided his weapon should be a Trident.

I treated it as a spear, with the special trait that the triple prongs give +1D to Disarm attempts. This applies to both attempts both by and against the wielder, since the triple prongs are good for catching the blades of weapons, but are also a good lever should someone wish to wrench the trident out of the wielders arms.

I suppose in the case of the counter-disarm, the bonus die would be added to the disarm half automatically (so you would have at least one die in the riposte half, plus another one for the disarm bonus).

So the stats for a run of the mill trident are:
Trident Power 2 Add 2 WSpd Fast VA 1 Strike Dist Longest
Two Handed, May Great Strike, +1D to Disarm attempts by or against the wielder, acts as a spear for Mtd Combat purposes

What do people think?

It's cool. Though I'd make it a Longer weapon, not longest.

You could also give him a special pinning move that allows him to Lock using his weapon skill!

Cool ideas. I think I will limit it to a 2D lock.

So the new stats for a run of the mill trident are:
Trident Power 2 Add 2 WSpd Fast VA 1 Strike Dist Longer
Two Handed, May Great Strike, +1D to Disarm attempts by or against the wielder, acts as a spear for Mtd Combat purposes, may use Lock at range (up to 2D) using base Trident Skill

My only question is, if you lock with this weapon, does it mean the weapon is then out off service because it's got the target in a lock, and what happens if the defender breaks the lock? Weapon might still considered to be 'stuck' in the lock possition? Maybe? Could be? Sounds cool though.

What do you think would be cool and make sense at the same time.

I wouldn't generally rule so - such a lock might be entangling someones cloak between the tines, so you could still stab 'em, or trapping his wrist. I might throw on a +1 ob, though. And maybe lose weapon length for positioning.

Now that's a good GM.
