Obviously, another trait from my BW Old West ruleset. This is the first required trait for the Cowboy lifepath.

Hatted - 3 pts

Character gets a fourth instinct, "The hat is part of me. Never take it off, lose it or leave it behind."

At the GM's discretion, this trait may also act as "Ineffable Feature: Hat".

You gotta take it off in church or doff it to a lady, as long as you're a White Hat. No need if you're a Black Hat.

True enough. But that would make for a long and awkward instinct.

I figure we'll just let the players play that by ear, or let them take another instinct as part of their standard three: "Take off my hat in front of God, womenfolk and the dead."

I don't think that the exact wording of the instinct is important. It's the intention that counts.

Will there be traits in the lifepaths to change the color of the hat?

Suddenly I'm seeing Hat as a Faith-like attribute. *chuckle*

Exactly, I was just making the wording more concise yet more broad. It was also pretty much straight from one of the "laws of Lexx" ( 10. Stanley Tweedle shall never lose his hat.)

In any case, I'm not sure you really need to bother with the instinct, just the trait.

I like the idea of adding an instinct. It really makes it a more ingrained part of the character.

Remember the scene from Back to the Future III?

"I was being chased by a bear!"

"But... your hat, man!"
