View Full Version : Conan Style Sorcerery & ?!
It would be an Emotional Attribute, that can be used for any role that would give the Sorcerer great power, anything that would further their twisted ambitions. It'd go up just as Grief and Greed or Hatred do when usedin this manner.
Also, when a Sorcerer fails a Tax roll it get's a dot towards going up.
When it hits ten the Sorcerer becomes an NPC demon-god. They go beyond human realms of power.
Thing is, their Sorcery stays at a ten and is able to be added to rolls just like when tehy were PC humans. But they go outside of the players' control, becoming evil players of a greater game, probably the villain of the campaign they are in, having fully gone to the dark side.
There has to be some kind of mirror attribute for the Conan's of the world, for the brutal bastards who stand up to these sorcerous villains. Heroism, Cunning, Sinew or something.
Thoughts?

I dunno man. I'd just use Summoning and Faith in Dead Gods (from the Lost Atlantean LPs).
Check out Named Summoning and some of the things you can do, specifically Empowerment and Transferrence. I think it probably handles what you want, with an appropriate price. Faith in Dead Gods grants all the funky hypnotism powers.
If you don't like that stuff, I'm happy to talk about something new.
I was just up late and vomiting whatever I was thinkin' all over the internet.
S'cool.
Sometimes gems come out of this kind of thing and sometimes not.
how about you start us off with a concept and theme behind sorcery in RE Howard's Conan stuff? That way we can better see what the mechanics need to address.
the Faith in Dead Gods was definitely designed for Conan style stuff, but it ain't the be all, end all.

I want the conflict of the game to be between those who gain their powers through unnatural magic that in the end will turn them into something that isn't human.
I like the fact that in pulp fantasy stories, there are humans and then there are sorcerers.
Then I want the sinewy thewed, riddle of steel, king by their own hand bastards on the other side, calling on a whole different powere that is born through their own muscle and will.
Am I making sense?
I think this philosophy on Sorcery was also seen in the early Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books, another place where I'm drawing my inspiration from.

That's fantastic stuff, Kevin.
Can you talk about how it worked for you at the table?

Never got a chance to play it, sadly. The campaign didn't get off the ground.
