Concept: Passionate and Mischevious Court Jester

Character Name: Leina

If I had a little more insight into the belief system of the campaign we've started before I burned my character, I might have burned up this character instead.
The setting is a religious one, and in the lands of men, but there is also lots of court intrigue and scandal to be had.

Lifepaths: Born Noble, Court Jester, Court Jester

Age: 19

Stats: Pe: 4
Wi: 3
Ag: 5
Sp: 4
Po: 3
Fo: 4

Attributes: Re:4
Ste: 1 (Ouch)
He: 5
MW: 9
Hesitation: 7

PTGS: Su: 3 Li: 5 Mi: 7 Se: 8 Tr: 9 Mo: 10

Skills: Sleight of Hand B4
Sing B4
Ugly Truth B3
Conspicuous B3
Climbing B5
Throwing B2
Soothing Platitudes B2
Heraldry B2

Gear: Clothes and Shoes

Reputations: "The Monkey" minor rep
Affiliations: Noble Court (25rps)

Traits: Scapegoat, Aura of Innocence, Slippery, Louis Wu (Yes, I went there) (I need to take a look at the cost of these and how to go about changing them to add in Mark of Priveledge)

Beliefs:
- Everyone likes me, they like me because of what I do.
- Life always gives me an audience.
- Noone knows I did it.

Instincts:
- If conversation becomes too deep to follow, perform sleight of hand.
- If a situation among my audience becomes tense, make them laugh.
- When my audience is sad, sing lamentations.

Now then, this Leina would be totally obnoxious to actually play, or to be in a campaign with, IMO. Leina is a female, but a rather androgynous one, alot of people never figure out her actual gender.

I'm still picking my way through the character burning thing, and I have actually burned two others that I might have created if I had known more about the history of the setting before burning my character for the campaign. That might be my fault for not asking better questions during burning. >.<

Tear it up!

Nice concept for a character. Jesters are cool. I always loved the jester in Ivanhoe from '82. Only Athelstane was cooler. :D

Some things I noticed:
* The character's age should be 19 since you went from Noble to Noble Court. The lead costs you one year.

* Mortal Wound should be 9 since you round down when averaging Forte and Power.

* Shouldn't she have the Mark of Privilige trait from Born Noble?

* The Noble Court affiliation gives her a lot of power at her hands. Is this the court where she works as a jester or her own father's court? Perhaps they are the same? Remember that affiliations give characters power -- sort of a station or rank of significance within that affiliation. The group is more than just people they've worked for/with or know, it's people whose power the character can use for her own ends. I only noticed this the other day myself. :) She also gets a more generic 1D Noble affiliation from her Mark of Privilege trait.

* The core of the beliefs are hard to pin down. As a GM I wouldn't be sure how to challenge them and what they say about the character. What idea/principle/emotion/need/phobia/whatever is to be found at the foundation of each of them? And how does this i/p/e/n/p/w affect the character?

* The instincts are nice -- I get the impression that Leina is a young girl who likes to control or at least influence people. To be able to affect them in an immediate way. Wants to be in focus all the time? :)

I edited the above to reflect this, although I will have to go back later and take a second look at the traits.

I saw her core beliefs and challenges as coming from finding out and understanding that not everyone appreciates her and likes her. I see any story arc involving her becoming a coming of age kind of thing, where she comes to terms with life.

And you got the instincts dead on, she's been entertaining and in the center of attention for much of her life, and she can't even fathom being anywhere else.

Hey N!

I'm curious: Why Born Noble? I'm not saying it's not valid, but certainly unusual in a jester. How do you see that coming about? Maybe it should be reflected in her Beliefs and/or Relationships? It strikes me as an incredibly powerful conflict that springs directly from her lifepaths. Could be very cool if that's what you want to explore.

If you're not interested in that, maybe Born City is more appropriate? It has a lead directly into Noble Court.
