There doesn't appear to be a Swim skill (unless it's listed by some other name, but I didn't spot one). Is it just assumed that anyone can swim? Or is it listed as a trait or something? (I'm guessing it'd be under Agility?)

As a GM, I simply ask the player if his character knows how to swim. If he does, great. If not, also great.
As for actual swim mechanics, simply set a Speed obstacle appropriate to the intent. Bathing in a pond: Ob 1. Crossing a narrow, slow-moving creek: Ob 2. Fighting against a rapid: Ob 4. Crossing the English Channel: Ob 6.

Yeah, and you'd be surprised by the number of people who don't know how to swim, even in the sea lifepaths. An incredible number of pirates drowned in the Carribean, and not because they sank in the middle of the sea...

Other possibility is to create a swimmimg training (to open a training character would have to spent 2 general skill points). So all those OB's (for untrainded swimmer) in Kublai example would be divided by 2 (rounded down) for characters with swimming trainng.

And base swim tests on Forte rather than Agility or Speed. At least if we're talking swimming distances and fighting currents. Or is endurance and fitness reflected by Speed rather than Forte? I always assumed Forte.
