Concept: A powerful woodcutter who takes up the ax to provide for his baby daughter. Who he carries on his back from town to town looking for work.

Character Name: Canen

After my wife passed away, there is no one to take care of little Alluren (baby daughter). She deserves more than the cottage of a woodcutter. What else do I know other than swinging an ax?

I wanted his low fighting skills to reflect raw fighting talent and the fact he knows how to swing an ax. He's just not use to what he's swinging it at moving out of the way.

Lifepaths: Born peasant, Woodcutter x 3

Age: 23

Stats: Pe: B4 Wi: B3 Ag: B4 Sp: B4 Po: B6 Fo: B5

Attributes: Re: B4 Ste: B3 He: B5 MW: B11 Hesitation: B7 Resources: B0

PTGS: Su: B3 Li: B6 Mi: B8 Se: B9 Tr: B10 Mo: B11

Skills: Firebuilding B4, Foraging B4, Mending B3, Orienteering B3, Wood Cutting B4, Wood-Wise B3, Ax B3, Brawling B2

Gear: Clothes, Shoes, Travelling Gear, R-o-M Axe (w/weighted hilt) & Dirk, R-o-M Quilted Armor, Cottage

Association: N/A

Contacts: Alluren (baby daughter)

Traits: Massive Stature, Thick Skinned

Beliefs:
- I will never be more than a simple woodcutter.
- Alluren will have a better life than her father.
- Alluren needs a mother to raise her to be a woman.

Instincts:
- Always wake before sunrise.
- Always see to Alluren first.
- Always try to place myself between my daughter and danger.

neat.

Did you use the law of diminishing returns?

Also, I read that first belief and immediately ask, "Why?" I think you need a "because…" statement in there. Would probably add conflict rather than just making the belief fait accompli.

You are correct. Completely forgot about it. Though, my first instinct is to change his lifepaths. I'm gonna keep him this way and just retabulate stats, skills, resources. I'll also update that first belief.

Stats: Wi: B3 Pe: B4 Po: B6 Ag: B4 Fo: B5 Sp: B3
Hea: B5 Ste: B3 Ref: B3

Skills: Firebuilding B3, Mending B3, Foraging B3, Orienteering B3, Tree-wise B2, Tree Cutting B4, Axe B3, Brawling B2

Gear: Clothes, Shoes, Travelling Gear, R-o-M Arms (Footmans Axe & Dirk), R-o-M Armor (Quilted), Leaky Shack

Belief
- I'll always be a simple woodcutter because I don't want riches or glory for myself.

YBelief
- I'll always be a simple woodcutter because I don't want riches or glory for myself.

cool. THIS is a belief I can challenge. It's a freaking artha factory.

And are you sure you want that B3 Speed? It makes for nice character, but it's an ouchie.

Yeah, I'd swap a point from Power, you'd also get a bump to Reflexes, and thus another action per exchange.

Just as an option for Lifepaths, you may want to check out the Outcast setting and see if you can't find something that works for him. So it could be Born Peasant, Woodcutter, Woodcutter, and Poacher (for example). I understand that you want him to be honest - just throwing in the Poacher because its the only LP I can think of from that setting. Then that last lifepath could reflect that he's been travelling for a while before the campaign begins. If not, you're going to be playing a character who is just beginning to wander (since no lifepath reflects his journeys).

I'll need the Speed for Natural defenses, thus negating a point of Power. Thanks for the reminder. I think I will keep that 3rd lifepath at woodcutter, otherwise it really messes up his first belief. I feel comfortable with him just setting out wandering.

I think I'll also trade the massive stature trait with long limbed. Essentially it's the same, but with a Power of B5 it doesn't seem quite as fitting. Also, why does the Foraging skill require tools? Isn't it simply finding edible plants to eat? Would that require a skill toolset?
