Say you have an Ob 3 roll to make.

If you roll 3 dice at that show 4+, that's described as 'meeting the obstacle' - but does that mean you've got one success?

I ask because in R&C combat, you can take a shot if you have one success. So if your shot is Ob 3 and you get the three dice at 4+, does that mean you have one success and can shoot?

Because if it doesn't then that means that it's not sufficient in R&C to just meet the obstacle if you want to do anything at all - you've got to get one more success than required to meet it. Otherwise, you can do absolutely nothing even though you've met the obstacle, which sounds a bit wrong to me.

Hey EDG. Keep in mind that there's two distinct portions to your volley in Range and Cover, positioning and acting. Positioning is a bit more tied to your actions in R&C than they are in Fight! in that your level of success in positioning buys you time to take more actions. When the rules say you need one extra success to fire they're saying that it costs one of your positioning successes to take a shot. So, test for position. If you beat your opponent you can use any extra successes over his successes to take actions. One of those actions is shooting, and it costs one of your successes. Then there's the other stuff like taking cover and aiming...all of which are bought with positioning successes.

Once you're actually shooting, you're up against the range obstacles. You're testing against those with your ranged weapon skill...new test. That clear it up?
