So, I am planning a Burning Wheel game set in my old fantasy world of Kalland. I've run a couple of lengthy campaigns there using C&S 2nd and Gurps. It is now time for Burning Wheel. This will be my first bash using the system, so I am quite excited, and a bit nervous.

Here is my opening pitch - which I hope conveys the sort of game that I am looking for. I'm going to open it out to see what the players want to achieve in this setting, it really is quite wide open. It is a time of opportnity, but what is it you want?!

Game Intro

They say the war is over. The black hosts from Narrisan have been turned back by Krallis, the dragon king, and the brave peoples of Tremallion. It is said that in the final battles Krallis summoned the ancient dragons to his aid and the elves from far Elimar and the Dwarves of Dahglorn stood shoulder to shoulder against all the might of Darkspire. Perhaps the horrors are over? But the funeral pyres are still warm and the brooding sky is filled with smoke and winds driven by unsettled spirits and dark sorcery, and the land has become a stranger, wild with wolves and other unnatural predators.

The armies may have gone, but what lies between the starving, barricaded, cities of stricken Tremallion? What ancient evils now await those who risk to travel outside the safe enclaves? Is it now safe to return to the fields and once more work the land? Are the rumours true that whole cities, those that stood alone, have been raised in the cataclysm? Is this now the 'End of all Ages' as declared by the priests of Arawen and the Greylord prophets alike? The spirits and rotting forms of the restless dead walk again, seeking retribution. Ancient magics have been unleashed and cannot now be unmade. Servitors of Grasmorth and other fell beasts that eluded their fate in the wars, have now grown bold in the cold aftermath, seeking whatever blasphemies their evil hearts tell them.

And so, it is a time for heroes. Those that will defy the lingering shadows and step forward to remake the world again. It will be those that are strong in thought and deed who will shape the destiny of Tremallion to their will. What is it that you desire? Have you the steel to step forward and take it?
