So I've heard a few complaints from a few particular individuals. They grumble that BW doesn't have stats for slings.

Well, they were not a popular medieval weapon (though they did exist), they had long passed from military/martial use back into the realm of peasant sheperds and bird hunters.

But i read this very cool thread over on rpg.net where someone actually builds and practices with a sling. http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76058

So based on his research:
Sling Bullet +2 Power VA — DOF 1-3, 4-5, 6 (Inaccurate Weapon).
Sling Stone +1 Power VA— DOF as above, reduces max range by 15 paces
Staff Sling Stone: +2 Pow VA 1 DOF as above

Short Sling: Lob: Power x2; 4 actions, Throw: Pow x8; 5 actions, Hurl: Pow x15 paces; 6 actions
Long Sling Lob: Pow x3; 4 actions, Throw: Pow x10; 5 actions, Hurl: Pow x20 paces; 6 actions
Staff Sling Lob: Pow x4; 6 actions, Throw: Pow x13; 7 actions, Hurl: Pow x25; 8 actions

Yeah. Get a bow.

I am glad to see these rules. It's about time, too! Our campaign has had slings in it for years!

you say it yourself, it was a peasant weapon. And thus it should be presented in BW terms, as there are so many Peasant LPs.

Here's one advantage a sling has over a bow. Let's see you fold your bow into your pocket! :P

for starters that post to rpg.net was SOOO cool. made me want to go out and practice right now... hmmmm, center city philadelphia is ill prepared for this...

rules are cool but I think the actions may b a bit too steep. maybe drop them by one or so. maybe have a load action, a wind action and a release action.

there ain't no way your average fellah could get off a stone in under three seconds.

and for longer distances, your average fellah is going to need more wind up and set time.

I think we all need to sit down and watch Clan of the Cavebear. Then we can time how long it takes Daryl Hannah to kill that wolf with her sling!

grrr.

you can't judge time from edited sequences! and besides, rumor has it that DH was a terrible shot with her sling. thus she was probably rushing anyway!

You know you're a nerd when you can recall a rumor about an actress' ability with a sling from a movie that was made 20 years ago. :P

Actually, to his defense, it was mentioned in ad nauseam in the same thread he got the sling ideas from :)

not that he's NOT a nerd
