Hey folks,

How would you work in knockback and stumbling into the mechanics?

I am thinking something like attack of double power against target needs an Agility ND to stay on one's feet (especially blunt weapons).

For a more cinematic flare a player could decide to allocate extra successes to distance (1 pace) instead of damage. ooo, I like that!

I believe knockback can be achieved with the current rules plus a little tweak.

Give each stage of damage an Obstacle. This will be the Obstacle the defender must get using his Natural Defence (Power/Forte/Speed?) in order not to be knocked back. Even a person whose armor saves them will need to roll.

Incidental=Ob1, Mark=Ob3, Superb=Ob5.

Failed by 1 means pushed back 1 pace. Failure by two result in pushed back one pace and onto your butt. Failure by more than two means on your butt plus 1 pace per extra failed die.

For example:

Peter attacks Luke. He gets 3 successes - a Mark hit to the face. Luke rolls only 1 measly success (I am being generous!) on his ND. Luke is knocked back one pace and falls onto his ass.

If this seems to much, perhaps I=Ob1, M=Ob2, and S=Ob4.

I wouldn't give any obstacle at all for incidental - seems like more of a glancing blow, and with an obstacle of one a roll is almost always going to be pointless.

Mark - Ob2
Superb - Ob3

+1 Ob for blunt weapons/weapons with large strike area
-1 Ob for strength 5 or higher

But a glancing blow from a dragon might fling yer booty around! :lol:
