I was bemoaning the loss of all that cool armor and sets for the trilogy and I saw this...
group trip to London, anyone?
http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/09/24/rings.exhibition/index.html
nice.
i would be surprised if it didn't come to NY or DC.
but i also heard they are going to do a permanent installation in NZ. I'd rather go there than London...

There's got to be a cool convention in New Zealand, right?
spring_violet keeps saying how she wants to live in hobbiton :)

If the exhibit shows in NYC or DC, we are so there. In the mean time I think I'm going to start saving my pennies for a NZ trip :-)
As for my dream of living in Hobbiton, I think we should build a Hobbit hole on the Pocono's property. I think it would look great up on the terrace.

With all of this talk about Middle-earth, why were Hobbits left out of the rule book and the Character Burner?

Good question. If spring_violet has a choice she always goes for the short people. It was tough transitioning from D&D to the Wheel (and a world that had no halflings) for her. I am certain there is some sort of psychological revelation there :)
I look forward to building a hobbithole when I am 50 :DAnyway, maybe some forum developed hobbit lifepaths would be cool :) I can't really work on this right now but if someone else does, think about somethig that would make them unique (like grief anf hatred). There has to be a Salt-of-the-Earth trait :)

there was no place for "cute" in the character burner. and no matter how the hobbits are presented in the films, they invariably end up "the cute pickpocket" at the rpg table.
i just couldn't condone that behavior.
maybe i'll do'em someday.
i hear kublai is working on gnome LPs, though...

Oh please abzu and eruditus, don't confuse D&D with Middle-earth, and the book The Lord of the Rings with the movie. BW doesn't need Kobalts, Gnomes, and Beholders, which I'm sure Steve Jackson would have loved to some how fit into his movies, but Hobbits as they are presented in The Hobbit and TLotR would make a good addition along side the Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Giant Spiders, Great Wolves, and Trolls that you have created for your game. You just have make them have the Stay At Home trait in the majority of their Lifepaths.

No, I am not confusing them with D&D... as abzu pointed out, it often can be a matter of perception among players... however, that may or may not be true.
In fact, I do not see Hobbits as particularly good at theivery, imho. The difficulty would be making them distinctive from Men. often they would just come out as short people with maybe a MW and Power penalty.
Do you have any suggestions, Durgil? :)
i'll start a new thread in Spreading Fire.

No, not at the moment, but I agree with your accessment of short Humans, and I like what Luke has done to this point with his entery. With the way all of the other races were depicted, it just seemed like something was missing with no furry toed Hobbits to kick around.
