These could be embarrasing "couldn't find the appropriate rule in the heat of the moment" questions...

In your reply could you quote where the rule is in the books? There were times where I was staring at what I took to be the obvious section in the Character Burner and it didn't tell me what I wanted to know.

1. Root for skills. If two stats are the root do you average them or take the highest? I took the highest but now I thnk Imay be wrong.

2. Lifepath Stat bonuses. If it says +1M,P does it mean +1 to each pool? If it says +1M/P does it mean +1 to either M or P?

3. On the character sheet. What are Let it Ride Successes?

4. There are three rings of circles on the PTGS. I asume this is so that up to 3 wounds of any number can be marked off?

I'll be posting my players' characters on rpg.net sometime soon. We are playing a short taster game of Burning Wheel that will be quite heroic. I have one 5 lifepath knight who appears to have Sword G6... and Steel 8 and Scars and Conspicuous and Fearless.... :-)

We'll see how the fearsme Middle Kingdom knghts fare in the land of the Shadow...!

I don't have the book, but I'll bet my house that these answers are correct.

1. Root for skills. If two stats are the root do you average them or take the highest? I took the highest but now I thnk I may be wrong.

You take the average and round down.

2. Lifepath Stat bonuses. If it says +1M,P does it mean +1 to each pool? If it says +1M/P does it mean +1 to either M or P?

A "," means you get both bonuses. A "/" means you have to choose one or the other.

3. On the character sheet. What are Let it Ride Successes?

When you roll skills, the result applies until something changes the circumstances and a new test is required. He marks them down in the Let It Ride circle as a reminder for himself.

4. There are three rings of circles on the PTGS. I asume this is so that up to 3 wounds of any number can be marked off?

Correct. Be sure not to think that you can only take 3 of each category. I once took 17 Superficials.

to clarify what kublai said (because i was confused by this initially, and i SUCK at math) divide the average by two and round down, or add the two stats and divide by four.

(this was learned by figuring out why so many of the players had B5 forgery starting off with a 5 per 5 agl... it's actually B2!)

He meant a "," means you get both bonuses (CB p17, 1st paragraph).

Kublai, where's my new house? :)

Thanks for the help so far. Here's another one to test you :-)

Open-Ended Tests p.18
(Would these be better placed in with the 'Testing your Abilities' section?)

I roll 3D and get two sixes. I pick up two dice and roll these and get two successes one of which is another six. Do I pick up another die and roll again? Do I keep going if I keep getting sixes?

How open are the open ended tests?!

Thanks

In the above example, you would pick up another die (bringing the total rolled to 6) and roll it. Open ended tests end when you stop getting sixes, meaning that the number of successes possible is theoretically infinite.
