So Ubercon was this past weekend. Myself, Don (Eruditus), Joanna (Spring Violet), Radek (Drozdal) and the inimitable Nerd Aaron (Nerdnyc) all attended.
This time around Aaron was kind enough to split his booth with Burning Wheel and company. Personally, I think this worked great. We had a lot of fun stuff for folks to look at and had a lot of cool people manning the table (so we could all pee when we had to!).
Being at a booth is wierd, for me it changes the dynamic of what I am at the con for. Mainly I am there to play BW with whomever. But at the booth, the pressure is on to be a salesman which is not my natural state.
We ran some GReAT games, though. Don started us off on Friday night with a session of Bound in Darkness for 9 peeps! I was manning the table, but from what I heard it all went very well. Don's Sherim world stuff is always a big hit.
I ran a couple of demos on Friday night, but nothing too spectacular. Saturday was a busy day for Aaron. T-shirts were flying off the table. My turn came to run games. I had an 8 hr slot booked from 4 pm to midnight.
First off we ran some melee demos -- three in all, I think. Dro "helped" by first willingly getting his ass kicked as a Black Wolf and then by killing nearly the entire table of 8 players as a Named Orc. Oops! All in all, I think we ran thirteen players through the melee demos.
After that, we played Poisonous Ambition with 6 players. Two players were experienced gamers, three hadn't played rpgs before at all and one had played BW a few times before, but wasn't a die-hard rpger.
At first, I think the players didn't know what to do with PA. There isn't a McGuffin or Mr Johnson, initiating the action is entirely up the players. But after everyone caught on to what was going on we had: eavesdropping, lying, fomenting dissent, assassination, backstabbing, interrogation, torture, betrayal and outright murder. It was a blast! I hope everyone who played had as much fun as I did.
On Sunday, Don made us all eat Dunkin Donuts for breakfast. Drozdal and I were in a sugar coma for the whole day. Fortunately it was Don's turn to run an adventure again. He had a good group of 6 players and ran a short adventure set in the world of Sherim. Apparently, everyone had a good time. I think three of his 6 players bought the game!
While Don was away and Aaron and I were nerding and shivving each other at the booth, some really nice kids came up (one of them was a ninja!) and said they wanted to play BW. I ran a melee demo for them right there, and afterwards we ran a lightnining fast 2-hour Von Goten's Predictament for them and a few other interested parties. That was a lot of fun. Despite the fact that they rushed the house, they managed to get very lucky and kill the Orcs while the squire was rescued. (What was very funny was that they kept coming up with all these great ideas for saving the day without risking their lives, but when I asked them, "Ok, how do you do that?" They just shrugged their shoulders and chewed their lips! Ugh! So close!)
So we all had a really good time and were glad to meet and play with a whole bunch of cool people!
thanks!
