View Full Version : New Script Sheet Round 2
http://www.burningwheel.org/pdf/BW_alternate_script_r2.pdf
In order to avoid confusion in the old thread, I started a new post for the revised version of the alternate script sheet. These revisions were made based on comments from rafial and eruditus in this thread: http://www.burningwheel.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=234
In the interest of showing the design evolution and feedback process I decided to leave both revisions up so folks could see the slight differences. Perhaps someday I'll post the very first iteratiion just for kicks. (It's ugly).
Also, I wanted to give credit where credit is due: This sheet was developed through discussions and playtests with Ian Marshal, Drozdal, and Jason Roberts (of Fvlminata), and via comments by rafial and eruditus.
Thank you all for your help and consideration.
that said, rip it apart again!

Regarding denoting Stances
At the outset of the conflict/script have all players mark the Neutral Stance circle. This is their current stance. If the player wishes his character to change stance, then he must spend an action doing so. Write the action number for this volley on the new stance (1, 2 or 3). The character then changes stance on that action. This new stance remains filled in until the character Sprints or Hesitates.
we playtested r2 of the sheets this weekend. They worked well.
However, for demos, I think I need to come up with a sheet that has most options grayed out. We had some players getting a little ahead of themselves with defensive stance and counter-locks on their first actions!

Here's my feedback after looking it over closely:
Spelling mistake: "spellcasting must be accompanyied..." should be "spellcasting must be accompanied..."
Has "Get Outside" been subsumed by Avoid?
I assume Counter...Lock -> Escape?
What is Counter...Disarm?
Does the grouping of these three indicate some new rules are in effect here?
Great Strike is not among the available actions (but its on the summary chart)
I'm a little confused by the penalties next to movement... They appear to be the penalties for somebody trying to hit the mover -- except for the +1 Ob on shooting, which the penalty for the mover. Wouldn't the user of this sheet be more interested in the penalties to themself for moving? At any rate, they should be consistent
On the summary chart:
Counter – I think you mean "Push" instead of "Pris" ;)
Feint & Great Strike says they counters "Parry" but every where else this manuver is called "Block"
Shouldn't counter(strike) and block be listed as working against disarm? (so says the book anyway)
Having Strike listed as countering "All" seems a little confusing...

We discovered some other small issues with the script sheet as we played with it tonight, but a certain GM doesn't want me to steal his thunder and tell you what we found. I guess you're going to have to wait until he gets around to saying something.

And that GM would be me. The thunder is MINE!
Anyway, rafial (damn, I should get this guy to edit my new book  ) mentioned some of the issues.
Some additions:
- Physical act should have a (2) next to it
- Personally I think 'Avoid In' should be an option on the sheet
more later when I can see our notes.

yes, this post in Errata describes the change.

These maneuvers are describted on pages 202-203 of the Burning Wheel.

i'll clear this up, thanks.

these are, as you described, penalties for the acter. Missile penalties before the slash, Melee penalties after.
thank you both for your other comments.
nothing like some good clean editing fun!
again, a lot these mistakes arose from using a sheet designed for another purpose as the basis for this one. I couldn't manage to scrub out all the old bits.
thanks again,

Ah the, martial arts rules. I'd been ignoring those so far. Thanks.
these are, as you described, penalties for the actor. Missile penalties before the slash, Melee penalties after.
Um, then what's listed on the sheet makes no sense, at least according to the book BW147,149-150:
Penalties to Actor, Missle: +1/ +3/ can't shoot
Penalties to *hit* Actor, Missile: none/ +1/2Spd/ +Spd
Penalties to Actor, Melee: none/ +1/ +4
Penalties to *hit* Actor, Melee: none/ +1/4Spd/ +1/2Spd
what'd i go and do now?
::sigh::
i'm like an old man who can't even remember his name.

Don't fret over it abzu, just blame it on being ADD or ADHD. All intellectuals have one or the other.

Is there a difference? I've never quite understood that. I know I've been diagnosed with one, but I've been diagnosed with so MANY things...

The bow summary lists snapshot as +2 Ob. BW148 lists +3 Ob.

What rafial said. Recommendations:
1. 1 page for the actual actions, 2nd page with summaries of actions for reference.
2. Kill off all of the white space around the edges of the text to about a quarter inch. Makes scaling and rotating the thing much more possible.

There was a critique from a couple of players at Lollagazebo that the type was too small. Also, I feel the circles get in the way when I want to write a one or a two next to the action. How about underscores instead of the circles? Then I'd be able to read the action # more clearly.

I admit, having JUST the volley's on the sheet and none of the notations would be a way to make more spce and bigger fonts. The otherwise blank back could be used for notes and clarifications. (although I used the backs of my laminated ones for maps :D )

Quick clarification on my part: I think the v3 of the script sheet is excellent as far as the information on it and presentation of it. More importantly, the effort going into improving this baby's VERY much appreciated!
Kublai, were the "too small" comments about an 11"x11" printout or something scaled smaller or ... ?

we were using 8x11, so maybe that's why.

I dunno, it just came out of my fingers... heheh.
I had much white space around most of the printout from my laser onto 8.5x11 that shrunk down the actual content and made it pretty much unusable due to print size also.

Looks much better to me in Acrobat, but I'll have to wait 'til tonight to print it and eyeball it. Thanks!
