Inour game last night my players were fighting an icetroll, when our archer let an arrow fly at the trolls head.
He used Artha to open end the throw and rolled an amazing 8 sucesses on B5 skill.
No that was a superior hit which does B10 damage. He still had three sucesses to spare.
This was a light wound on the troll. My player was miffed.
His question to me was:
Is there a mechanic in Burning Wheel except the + of DOF for bumpng dammage.
I told him of different arrow heads, but this what not what he meant. I think he felt he got little back for his Arthe Investment.

I think the moral of the story is you want a long bow or a heavy cross bow if you are hunting trolls. It doesn't matter how accurate you are if the weapon you are usually simply cannot deliver enough power.

The only thing I can think of would be to purchase a minor Ephiphany on Power, and then use the rules for doing Grey damage via a normal weapon. Only that wouldn't help a bow, because its base damage isn't based on Power. Oh yeah, it it costs a sledge load of Artha.
Here's a non official thought for missle weapons if you wanted to be generous. You could say that rolling 7+ on the DOF was an "Astounding" hit that did double Mark damage.
But then all the melee weapons users would start whining about maxing out at Superb, so perhaps it is best not to go there :)
[I posted something about this in the Forge thread, but I'll respond here for the sake of completeness.]
I think your player encountered his character's limits within the Burning Wheel system. And BW definitely has limits: weapons do not have unlimited damage potential and characters do not have unlimited ability. It is a system more about knowing your limits and making the necessary choices to overcome or maneuver around them.
And to be fair, it was only one Artha point. I've seen players spend a lot more and still end up dead. Life in BW is a struggle whose outcome is largely uncertain. It's best to acknowledge this at the outset of play.
