I know there are some bw gamers in the metropolis (unless the Orcs Nest are confused by the name and are literally burning their copies of bw as they come in) so where are you @? If you need an extra man, or want to join in some erratic sessions I have a bw-wise of 3 and the other group members have about 2. Though this does not sound promising we FoRK it with rpg-wise (sometimes more of a hindrance then a help) and get a helping dice (when they are in the mood) to bring it up to a respectable 5 dice.

Welcome, pontif! Good luck with the roll, there. Got any Artha to use?
Any time you come across the pond, look us up here in NYC!

Hi Pontif,
Sorry it's taken so long to notice the thread. I'm in Forest Hill, South London. Currently part of a small group which meets weekly (or thereabouts) in Croydon.

Well at least one set from Orcs Nest has ended up in West Sussex :)
Would definitely be interested in the occasional game and am happy to travel.
I'd like to get my bw-wise skill to something useable by Conception next February.

heya Londoners - I'll be in the UK for 12 days this Oct. touring with my band. We'll have 4 shows in London and I'm quite sure that I'll be bored out of my mind with band-stuff. With some careful (and hopeful) planning, I might be able to get in a game or two...!
here are the dates:
Oct 3rd-London, England @ Dublin Castle (although it looks like the venue will change)
Oct 4th-Manchester, England @ Night and Day
Oct 5th-Glasgow, Scotland @ Barfly w/The Sunshine Underground
Oct 6th-Liverpool, England @ Barfly w/The Sunshine Underground
Oct 7th-York, England @ Barfly w/The Sunshine Underground
Oct 9th-Cardiff, England @ Barfly w/The Sunshine Underground
Oct 10th-Birmingham, England @ Barfly w/The Sunshine Underground
Oct 11th-London, England @ Barfly w/The Sunshine Underground
Oct 12th-London, England @ Old Blue Last
Oct 13th-London, England @ Club NME at Koko
Any thoughts/ideas?
Looking forward to meeting some of you BW folk in the UK!

Hi, am based in West Norwood (very near Forest Hill actually) and just grabbed a copy of BW.
Keen to try it out.
Are you still looking for a player?
Background; 38yo, been roleplaying since 1980 (which may make me older than a lot of of players, so if that's a prob, no worries).
Done some work in the d2o field for Mongoose Publishing, but BW looks very interesting.
My group's attendance is a bit hit and miss, hence it would be good to join up.
What days do you play? And where in Croydon?

Hi Talwaruk, West Norwood? Just round the corner! I've had BW for a while now and am just starting a game (hopefully) this thursday. It's with 6 players so is verging on the "Oh my God! what AM I doing?" already. I shall let you know how it goes though.

37 years old & cut my teeth on Harnmaster, Runequest and Call of Cthulhu in the mid eighties. We're all about the same age & have generally returned to gaming after a long hiatus.

Not just our group then.

We meet once a week on a thursday evening in Purley and it's been very intermittent this month, Hopefully things will pick up now the summer holidays are over.
What about your group. How many? Where? How often?

Salar,
Thanks for the reply. We played our first session last week, a very simplified version (no arha, steel and using just a handful of skills) which went well. The combat rules (in their full glory) seem very intimidating, so I'm not sure I'll go the whole hog.
Group comprises me and four others, but it's been a LONG time since we were all there.
Today is a perfect example, two drop out= game cancelled.
I used to work in Purley, but am now at London Bridge.
Give us a shout if you have an opening (six players! Good luck!).

Hi Talawak,
Glad (or not so glad, really) to see that your group's as rubbish as the one I'm in. No gaming at all for the months of August-September...Grrr! I'm starting my Burning Harn game tomorrow (hopefully) and have done pregen characters based on concepts provided by the players. Tomorrow night we;ll kick off with a prequel where the group define the "big bad" they're looking for, how they all came together and the beliefs & Instincts will be hashed out at the same time.
I'm not altering BW in terms of adapting it to Harn, I'm just using it as is without altering the magic etc. Hopefully it'll go ok.
The plan is for...
1: go over characters and answer any non-system related questions.
2: Throw them in with a " you're all in a sewer system and lights and the voices of men surround you..."
3: This will (hopefully) lead into why they're their, who are they looking for, how did they meet and who are the people approaching. I'm hoping this will set up some basic prequels where the guys can get their head around the basics of the BW system.
4:Once this encounter has been resolved and a clue created towards locating the "big bad" we can start in earnest.
I'll let you know what happens.
A quick question for everyone meanwhile...
One player wants to have a warrior who during play wnats to become a mage. He doesn't start the game "gifted" and Harn has very strict rules on the proliferation of magic (ie don't!) I.m thinking of going along the lines of...If you can find a teacher who's happy to flaunt the law (and the consequences that will throw up) then all good and well. Then I'm looking at a 1 year training cycle whereby he's can be taught a basic spell. If after that year he's able to cast it then he gains the "gifted trait". Does that sound about right?

That's the appeal about BW, it's has a familiar European feel. I'm using it to restart an ancient (1983) campaign using the Dragon Warriors setting, which uses a lot of Crusades background.
The adventure we're halfway through is trying to persuade an old noblewoman to add the pc's lord to her will. The Duel of Wits came in handy, fighting was non-existent (unless you count smothering the old girl in her bed with a pillow!), which makes a nice change.
Spent last night trying to understand the fighting rules, it's slowly slipping into place...
With the new Robin Hood series about to begin (I was a HUGE fan of the old Michael Praed/Jason Connery series back in the day) I'm adding a few new traits to allow archery hotshots faster drawing/notching/releasing times.
The game will be quite magical, there's an entire society of mages at work, and one of the players always runs mages!

I've created a new thread in the Actual Play section for my Burning Harn game which kicked off last night. It can be found here. (http://burningwheel.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3301)

There is another copy of Burning Wheel in Eastcote (west London). It is in posesion of 21 years old czech au pair, who would like to join a game (since he's been in London for one month now, and starts missing rpgs).
Although I come from Czech Republic I consider my language good enough to keep up with others, so don't worry.
I'm free on every other weekend, and on Fridays (if I'm not having the weekend off).

Hi Conlai,
Welcome to blighty! Unfortunately, as I've posted above, I'm in a group of seven & it's already proving a tad large! You may also soon discover the joy of trying to get around London (especially between North & South london...ie it's a pain in the arse! very slow and expensive).
Have you had a look at the Orcs Nest club list (http://www.orcsnest.com/clubs.htm) or the Leisure Games clubs and players list? (http://www.leisuregames.com/acatalog/ClubsAndPlayers.html) Both seem to have a few west london clubs. Think of it as a chance to spread the BW word amongst the ignorant masses!
If things change at our little club, however, I'll repost here with news of another Londoner available for games.

Salar: Thanks. I've already been to Orcs Nest, virtualy and physicaly as well (that's where I have my BW from), but I haven't tried Leisure games yet. I'll go and take a look.
And yeah, I'll spread the word amongst them, don't worry:
"There is only one true path, the river of flame!"
"Oh god, just let me go. Please!"
"Disbeliever! I... will... show... you!!!"
"Aaaaargh, not the burnig! Not the burning!!"

I used to live in West London, and there was a hobby/games shop in Harrow called the Model Shop. It's moved to North Harrow (I think). There may be some contacts there too.
Let me add my 'welcome to London' shtick too. Hope you have a good stay!

There's also the Uk Roleplayers Forum (http://www.ukroleplayers.com/index.php) which has a board for UK clubs. Posting there may find you players in London (though not necessarily BW/BE players).
