In burning up some salty dogs last night, I noticed that there are actually three "Sailor" life paths, in each of the Village, City, and Seafaring settings. Each has a slightly different skill/trait list (which is cool, I like that a Sailor from the Villlage will be Superstitous, but not one from the City). However, a Seafaring Sailor gets only 4 rps and 4 sps, even though he spends the same 5 years at it then that V & C Sailors do, who each cash in with 5 and 5.

Is this deliberate, or an oversight?

Oh, and I think it rules that Cursing is a training, although I'm not sure what advantage it would give you in play :)

This is a deliberate choice based on my research.

The sailor's life was never easy, particularly in the case of naval/piratical/disciplinarian settings.

The seafaring sailor gets treated roughly in the numbers because he is considered a cog in the machine -- he does his job, if he wants to do something else, he changes his job.

The sailor in the other settings is considered to be a more general purpose lifepath that describes a less rigid life where a man might fulfill more roles.

If I was to be completely accurate, the Seafaring Sailor LP would be called Seaman (since that was the name of the position in the navies). And Sailor would be reserved for those carefree few who make their living plying the waves, rather than roads, with goods and services.

i hope that helps.

BTW, use Cursing Training as a FoRKs/Help for Intimidation, Interrogation, Falsehood, Ugly Truth and perhaps even Seduction!

heh.

Fair enough... I stuck my "Old Salt" character into that lifepath, since I was basically trying to build an old guy who was as incompitent as possible. He took that lifepath 7 times. Some people never learn :)

I didn't realize that Trainings could be called on as Forks. I assumed Trainings just provided some benny that you wouldn't have otherwise (like Armor Training or Observation Training)

Be flexible and creative with the system. Why pigeonhole something as useless as Cursing Training? Why NOT make it something oddly useful? (And we allow nearly ANYTHING to be used as a FoRK if the player can justify it.)
