Every now and then I'll read some complaint about BW somewhere and well, let me give an example:
"I hate the fact that there are 3 types of Artha" and I wanna respond saying, well ok, "here's a way to run it with 1 type of artha and scaling costs for the more powerful stuff..."
But I end up thinking the end result is going to be subtlty different and more importantly inferior.
OR
"The lifepath system takes SO long and math HURTS MY BRAIN!" and I'm all, ok I'll do like a bunch of half-burned template-y sort of characters where the bulk of the work is done for you / all you gotta do is allocate these 5 skill points and these 2 trait points (and come up with awesome BITs but that's almost a seperate issue) and you're done! Heck, it's kinda like that other game you're familiar with, DnD where you pick a class / race combination that sets up most of the details for you and then you just allocate a couple of points, right?
and then I read:
Yay, I don't have to do lots of pointless rolling! Boo, someone's already done the work and I have no investment in it.
and he's right. If you're not invested, your game's gonna end up being flatter than a pancake.
So...
It's like I wanna dive in and help, but sometimes help just isn't helpful and you just gotta let em go.
:(
Anyway, pardon the vent; Burn on, guys, burn on!
