Here is the first character I burned. This is a supporting character (NPC) for a game I'd like to run (hopefully, I'll be posting about the game idea soon). So, I found I had to fudge quite a bit on resources to make it work. He has more reputation and affiliation than he should, and probably a bit too much gear. Also, I'd like to fudge his age, which is technially 33, but probably should be 40+.

Sir Garrand, veteran knight

Concept: He's an aging knight who fought in the old border wars, losing many comrades along the way. He recently discovered one of his long-dead comrades had an illegitimate son with a farmer's daughter they boarded with during the wars.

Cool character. Very solid. I love that he was maimed in the head!

You don't need to pay for exponents for your Trainings. They cost 2 pts flat and don't have an exponent. Page 22 of the CB.

Good point!

I had a question about that, though. One of my paths listed "Shield" and the skills section describes only "Appropriate Weapons" and "Shield Training." Which is Shield? I interpret it as the same thing as "Shield Training." Is that right?

Nice knight, chimera.

If you want him to be older, why not give him a few more lifepaths? If I'm not mistaken, the age penalties will somewhat offset the stat gains, plus there's the diminishing returns on skills, and you'd get all sorts of additional resource points so you don't have to feel bad about tweaking his gear. You could take some relationships, too.

It's Shield Training, Matt. Very useful!

Also, his Circles is B2, not B3.

Carry on!

Good point, Tim. Frankly, I should just tack on a second path of Knight.

I started out trying to learn how to burn a proper character, then ended up fudging the results to get a NPC I wanted for the game, losing sight of the lifepaths limit and my original goal. Adding that extra Knight path would probably account for much of my resources fudging.

Take those points you speant on the training exponents and give yourself a mace or axe skill. Otherwise you will have a hard time prying open tin cans when your lance shatters in combat. I'd also up that lance skill too. And where's your squire?

Good points, Horseman. I want to post the squire especially. He'll be a young lifepath character I'll add.

Definitely going to grab a mace skill, maybe up the lance as you suggest. I'm going re-burn this guy with the additional lifepath or two to make him more fit and less fudged! I'll post anew soon.
