This is a character I burned for a face to face burning empires game I'm joining (yay!) The setting is a Merchant League/Mundas Humanitus dominated planet. The planet is a shrine, highly prized by various religions because the atmosphere is mildy halucinagenic... some of the gasses have odd properties; the leader of one of the cults on planet is actually hulled, but the chemicals in the air have caused the naiven to go dormant, and allowed the human mind to regain control.

The Church is heavily infiltrated with Vaylen, and so my character has been called in by a fanatical PC who wants someone from outside to come clean house.

I'm not terribly happy with my instincts and beliefs... they seem a little ho-hum, except for the ones I've cribbed from other characters I've seen.

I think the beliefs are great - not "ho-hum" at all. For GMs and other players on the table, it gives a lot to work with.

You may want to find a way to create an immediate or fulfillable goal in one of those beliefs, something that drives you into action initially and will earn you some artha.

I'm glad you like them, but yes, that's exactly the issue I saw. There's no imediate goal I can acheive, other than discrediting the League.

In other news, things are looking worse and worse for my character. I've been talking to the GM... apparently, my sister is going to be the ex wife of a FoN, another PC. And she's not going to be hulled, but going to be subborned. So instead of getting a way with an easy, if morally objectionable brain-scan, I'm going to have to torture her into confessing and circle up a priest to perform a divination. YAY!

I also like the way my Kerrn pilot/bodyguard is turning out just from my glance at the lifepaths.

Are you joining a game already in progress? Were you present for the world burning? Is it a new phase?

This may help us with giving some belief advice.

thanks

These are pretty cool Beliefs. You've got one "I have a big-picture enemy" and you've got one "I've got an individual I care about," which makes for all sorts of potential "so which do you care about more -- discrediting the League or helping your sister?" I'd like a little more detail about the sister and why your character cares about her, and in what way he cares: Does he simply feel honor-bound to her as family, does he really love her, does he think he failed in the past and needs to make up for it?

I think "I won't be corrupt" is not quite there yet. It already has the potential to conflict with the other beliefs -- what if abusing your office for your personal agenda is the only way to help your sister or to discredit the League, by using their own weapons against them? But it'd be even stronger (and more of an artha mill!) if it was an active rather than a passive belief: say, "I won't abuse my office for my personal agenda, nor will I tolerate any one else doing so, even my allies and friends."

I need bigger blanks for "Beliefs" on my character generation spreadsheet, don't I?

I'm joining a game already in progress, but I believe they've only played one manouver so far. The two Big Bads who've shown up already are a Mansonesque cult leader and the Archcotar. Other PCs include a Mystes (who called Maurice in) and, ironically, the ex-husband of Maurice's sister, who's a mover and shaker in the League =)

As for the sister, she was a bit squicked when Maurice developed his bright mark and made him promise not to scan her. He does love her, but I'm thinking I may actually change his instinct from 'scan everyone' to 'scan no-one without cause.'

I think that making it more active the way you suggested is a terrific idea, Sydney, and I'll change that.

And yes Sydney. Yes, you really do =)

I'll work on that. Excel is a bitch for formatting long blocks of text, so it may be harder than it sounds....

And it seems like your character is tightly tied in to the other PCs. Very nicely done.
