Ok, After a comabt challange with gronti over on the nerds board, I had a fire lit under my arse and created my 1st BW character.
I am completely Virgin at this, but I must say it was fun.
Now I sit here with stas and concept, and not knowing if I did this right.

The Concept was an Amazon Galdiator: Tessaphena Karamekos was born into the noble house of an Amazon nation, she was raised ot be a Priestess and warrior (all women must spen a year or two in the military). During a raid she was made a POW and sold into slavery. Her new master ran the local fighting pits so in she went. She spent the rest of her years as a blood thirsty pit fighter.
I chose Human for the race
the Life paths were
Born... Noble
Acolyte
Man at Arms
Captive of War
Foot soldier
Age 26
Perception 4
Will 4
Agility 3
Speed 2
Power 4 (grey)
Forte 3
Skills:
Doctrine (root 1) 0
Mounted Combat (Root 1) 0
Short Sword (root 2) 2
Brawling (root 2) 1
Shield (root 2) 2
Armor (root 2) 1
Intimidation (root 2) 1
Read (root 1) 0
Mace (root 1) 1

Health 3
Steel 6 (answered yes to 3 of the questions)
reflexes 3
Mortal Wound 10

Right now I'm working on Resources
I took regional Rep (Fighting Pits)
but still have 31 to go

Is this looking right?

She's, um, interesting. But even with her super-tastic Gray power, Pete's going to have her begging for mercy in one exchange.

I really wouldn't recommend making a martial character with a Speed of 2. Really, really. Well-rounded is the name of the game in Burning Wheel. A Gray Power is nice, but for a character that isn't going to have time to grow, then it's more of a hindrance than a help.

The skills are whacky. It costs one point to open a skill at its root, half of the governing stat rounded down. Then you add points on a one for one basis to advance the exponents.

Also, Mounted Combat, Armor Training and Shield Training are, um, Training skills. They simply denote a special ability tacked on to another skill and aren't rolled and don't have a rank. Simply open them for 2 points and leave it at that.

Lastly, check out the Black Barbarian setting if you are looking for a stand-in Pit Fighter lifepath. http://www.burningwheel.org/pdf/bw_barbarian_lps_r2.pdf

Well, Dregg, a fine attempt, but there is definite problems if you are going to beat the infamous wagronti.

A Speed of two is usually associated with very old women and toddlers.
The Grey Power is unnecessary, as well, since you don't have the Hands of Stone trait. Sure the Grey Power will give you +2 Power to your weapon, but you can easily get an equivalent Power of Black 6 and still have 3 points to, say, boost your speed!

As Abzu pointed out, your interpretation of the skills are interesting. :?

Roots for skills are listed with the skill description and in a handy listing in the back of the Burner. Remember, Roots are calculated on half of the appropriate Stat, rounded down.

Let's take some of your skills and give you the proper roots:

All melee weapons skills are going to be based of your Agility, which is 3. Therefore, your sword, mace, and brawling skills have a Root of 1. If you add 1 Stat point to Agility, you are going to boost those Roots to 2 giving yourself 3 free skill points, in essence.

Initimidation, and most social skills, are based off of Will, giving your Amazon a Root of 2.

Doctrine and Reading are Perception based, I believe, giving you a Root of 2, as well.

Each skill will cost 1 point to open up. You then add in remaining skill points to these roots to create your starting skill exponent. All Trainings cost a base of two and aren't listed the same as a Skill.

As for resources, a regional rep is great for a campaign, but is this character for the challenge only? If so, go for superior-quality arms and armor! And buy some clothes and shoes, for Heaven's sake!

Also, very importantly are Traits! These can make the difference between a schlub and a hero!

Good luck with! :D
