Hello, I would like to introduce myself to the BW/BE community. I discovered BW by reading the forge (in depth) and wrapping my head around the “new style” theory. After reading the sample chapters and various AP threads (a lot of Paka’s) I assessed that BW is in fact (for my purposes), a perfect blend of old and new school philosophies. Plus I have been a big fan of Elves ever since my parents first read me the hobbit; however no RPG ever did them justice IMO. After reading Paka’s “the Vault” AP threads and the path of spite I was completely sold (I so want to play a BW dark elf). So I ordered BW:R and the Monster Burner from IPR and they should be at my house by the time I get home (I’m a Soldier ending my second tour in the bad place, but that is neither here nor there) I’m really looking forward to reading and hopefully playing BW.
P.S. I stared reading about BE, and I must have it. Luke Crane is an evil man.

Hey Justin and welcome.
As for Dark Elves - You can find Path of Spite by clicking over here (http://www.burningwheel.org/wiki/images/1/13/Path_of_Spite.pdf) (and download it for free) .
I think he got that, Dro. ESL.
Justin, Welcome! I sincerely hope you like BW. Feel free to post any questions you have on the boards. And keep yer eyes open for any convention appearances we might do in your area.

Thanks for the warm welcome; I noticed that you have a very nice interweb community here. Luke, I’m really looking forward to a comprehensive reading of BW. Your use of system to enable/enforce both the setting and story is very intriguing. I have decided to read BW before BE in order to internalize and fully grasp the core mechanisms prior to moving on to the advanced stuff in BE. As far as conventions go, do you all ever get up to the Seattle/Tacoma area? I’m stationed at Ft. Lewis.
P.S. Drozdal I have indeed read the Paths of Spite (inspired stuff) but thank you for the link
-Justin
Edit: lol, the USO presents BWHQ! 99% of troops- “Who? Where are the hot chicks” Me- “rock on”!

Hey Justin. Welcome! We haven't done any conventions in Washington in the past, but if you let us know about them, I suspect we could work something out!

Welcome!

The mechanics in BE are streamlined from those in BW, really. There's just more mechanics in there for the campaign structure, etc. Both are great games, though! BW has taken over nearly all of my gaming time.

Hot chicks are often found at BWHQ, and often gaming. :)

Hey Justin, welcome to the boards. I'm up in Vancouver, but I have friends in Seattle that I've done a couple of BW one-shots with. I'll let you know the next time I head down, and maybe you can join us.
Oh yeah, what am I thinking? There's a bunch of gamers we know over in Seattle.

Right on, the only big convention in the Seattle-Tacoma area I can think of is PAX (Penny Arcade eXpo) and that is more a nerd life type con as apposed to a table top gaming one. That said it is a cool ass con with good table top representation (Privateer Press, and other stuff). You high speed BWHQ cats might want to look into it (if you want to go the Pacific North West, that is). Thanks again for the sociable reception.

So, the monumental temptation of the free PDF offer on Key20 proved to be more then I can resist. I have several days of sitting around waiting to fly to Kuwait, followed by even more sitting before getting on bored the sweet freedom flight. So now I can enjoy BE goodness as I hurry up and wait. It’s funny, over the last week I have purchased the complete BWHQ product library; does that entitle me to a gold star? Or how about unlimited downloads from the Wiki? –Wink- Anyway I’m off to start reading my brand new still has the freshly downloaded smell BE PDF.

OH, man. This has me nervous. Everytime someone says this, they come back and ignite holy hell here on the boards.
Welcome!

Welcome!
Why would I ignite any kind of hell? I’m just here to get my Burn on. Do you mean a lot of "why does rule x work like that?" kind of stuff? I always try to use forum search tool- wise before I post a bunch of noob questions. I’m just looking forward to reading the BW books.
I have been happily devouring BE, and am very impressed. The big problem will be getting a group together to play, D’oh!
Stay frosty (or whatever)

Don't mind Kublai. He has red hair, and has been grouchy since he lost his salad tongs.

We have a bit of east coast/NYC culture here on the boards, so if someone is busting your balls or the testicles of a third party, it's probably in a friendly way. If it bothers you, tell them to back off, or PM them, or something. Anyway, I rep the 206, so hopefully I'll see you at a con or something (I'm not in a position to run a game for a while yet, and it sounds like you'd have to commute anyway.)
Anyway, welcome to the boards!
I don't know what Devin's talking about! We're one big happy family here. We even love Poles and Londoners!

I think Devin is suggesting that we ~are~ all Poles and Londoners.

Anyway, welcome, Justin. We look forward to holy hell being ignited.
Maybe we will go to that PAX con the next time. In the meantime, abzu can give you insight into the hot goth clubs in Seattle.

That’s cool; I also have nothing against Poles and Londoners. Or even Londoner Poles! As to Goth clubs in Seattle, hot or otherwise; my wife would not approve! In regards to being thick skinned and whatnot, that’s no problem. I just thought it was a odd comment.

You might also check out the guide to BWHQ Slang (http://burningwheel.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2778&highlight=slang) and incorporate it into your responces to the assholes (see poles) on this forum. ;)

Ah yes, I see. You guys (and by guys I mean Poles) are all right!
It that correct use of BWHQ interweb slang?;)
That'll do. And if you sprinkle all of your posts with salt, everything will be just fine.
