View Full Version : Enchanting Question...

Just wanted to check and see what people have been doing with this so far, since I assume (from the looks of the last post on the matter) that there is no official "Wheel of Enchanting" as described in the character burner.
So the question then becomes, has anyone worked up a system for enchanting that seems to work? Or does anyone have experience with just using the "Wheel of Sorcery" in place of one for enchanting?

At the moment, Enchanting is very similiar to Summoning in that you speak the magic words:
"What about Enchanting?"
and POOF! A snarling, hideous Abzu appears, making impossible promises for the future while wishing he could tear your head off and suck your soul out the throat hole.

A fun way to do enchanting would be to extend the Art of Sorcery duration from Campaign (Ob 10) to Perminant (Ob 12).
That's be impossible to hit that obstacle though, Mike.
There are no rules for the Enchanting skill at the moment, DRAGON MASTER. If you'd like a sneak peek at some possibilities, check out the Tech Burner or try out the new Art of Sorcery rules or use the Abstraction rules to make permanent effects or check out the Elven Antiphon Union or the Dwarven Black Metal Artifice, Nogger, Forge Artifice, Gem Artifice, Hallmaster, Stone Artifice, White Metal Artifice or War Art skills.
Nope, as Tim said, there certainly aren't ten or so various ways to create magical or enchanted thingies in Burning Wheel (that no one ever uses).

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look through the suggested sections in my books, and probably end up on the "It' Only Takes A Spark" board with a hobled together House Rule for Enchanting. Which will no doubt be used by our group until the Magic burner turns up, at which point the house rule will be tossed aside.
To be honest, I half expected to find that different groups had thrown together temporary house rules for it, though I suppose not every group would use such a thing as much as our group does. We almost always end up with a character or two with some variation on enchanting who makes enchanted items for everyone else.
Thanks again for all the useful input. And once again, thank you Luke for this Inspired game. Reading through the rules, I already have several idea's for campaigns (Elvish Pirates, There and back again minus the hobit, and many others that require far more study to see how well they would fit within the rules).
