Beliefs:
I'll destroy my brothers one spider at a time
Once my brothers are gone, they'll need new blood in the ranks of the Servants - that will be me.
Dwarves have what should be ours - Fireforge hold shall belong to my clan.

Instincts:
Vomit on my weapons before the fight
Make my point (always put at least 1 point in each DoW exchange)
Pay them a compliment when they might think they've hurt me

Positioning: Well, the bonus for 'longest' weapon would imply we're close enough to deploy touchy-feely weapons, so I guess I'd have the sword out. I didn't read up the elongated forelegs, but I assume my sword isn't longer, at least, and you've got me beat on reflexes and speed modifier (again, I assume), so I'm just rolling speed here:

6,5,3,3,2,2 - 2 successes. Hmmm.

- My alliance with Thormak is currently useful, I shall dispose of his troublesome brother.
- The path to strength is to cull the weak, I shall hunt and kill all weak males.

Instincts:
- Drop a drag line.
- Always have a lariat ready.
- Always have a net ready.

I am positioning with my Net. I get the bonuses for longest weapon, higher speed modifier, and higher reflexes. So 6D+3D for 9D positioning.

3, 6, 1, 4, 4, 1, 3, 4, 1 = 4 successes.

Thus I decree that we start at optimum range for my Net which puts you at outside striking distance for your sword.

Do you want to reveal a volley or exchange at a time? I'm set either way.

Tobias

Let's do it the official way and reveal a volley at a time.

My first volley is Close, Avoid, Avoid

So, on the close, 6d = 2,4,3,3,6,4 = 3 sucs.

Then to see how well my avoids do,

action 1: avoid: 5,4,5,4,5,6 = 6 sucs! Hope you were doing something other than aiming :). I take +1 ob for the moving quickly (close), so that's 5

actions 2: 2,4,5,3,1,2 = 2 sucs, with +1 ob means 1 suc. Bet this is the action you're using to hurt me. :)

My volley is Maintain, Acquire Target, Aim

So 9D positioning 5, 3, 2, 5, 1, 3, 5, 1, 5 = 4 successes. No change in position.

Gorrack and Eclavdra stare each other down.

Volley Two: Maintain: Aim, Throw Net

Tobias

Ducking and weaving between stalactites, Gorrack tries to find a clear route to the spider, but he can't find one. Still, he keeps trying, waiting for the net to come, hoping to duck behind a stalactite at the right moment.

Ok, I went with Close, Avoid, Avoid again..

6d for close... 4,4,4,2,2,2 = 3 succ

6d for both avoids:

The first one is academic, but the results were: 3,2,6,5,2,2 = 2 suc
The second avoid: 5,2,3,3,5,5 = 3 suc, lose one for the +1 ob for closing, =2 sucs to reduce your throw by. (right?)

OK so +1ob for me maintaining, +1ob for you closing, and +1ob for you avoiding. I get +2D for aiming. That makes it either 8D for an Ob5 Agility test or 5D for an Ob4 Throwing test. Think I'm going with Agility.

6, 4, 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, 1 for 7 Successes!

Rolling the DoF 3 +1 for an extra success over the Ob still gives a 2D lock from the net.

As the silken net drops gracefully over her hapless opponent, Eclavdra drools at the thought of the tasty meal to come.

Volley 3 Positioning with legs Close: Avoid, Lock

Tobias
02-15-2007, 02:50 PM
The dice sure chose their moment to heat up for you! :)

hmm, a 2d lock... I had close, strike scripted. I believe I cannot abort to breaking lock, right? So roll what you can, and tell me what I can (I'll look it up as well, but ain't that experienced).

Verrain
02-15-2007, 03:16 PM
Well let's do the positioning test thing first. My intention is wanting to get inside but I can only move two places max I believe from outside attack range to optimal. This is where you want to be for your sword I presume so no rolls needed there.

For my avoid I roll 6D for Speed at +1ob for closing 5, 2, 4, 6, 2, 3 = 2 Successes.

Tobias
02-15-2007, 04:48 PM
Ok, so I get -2 D for the lock, but I do get to strike at you. 5 dice, +1 for the dwarven quality, -2 = 4. No FoRKs.

4, 4, 5, 1. = 2 sucs. Which isn't enough to get past your avoid.

You're locking from optimal?

Verrain
02-15-2007, 06:52 PM
Yes but the Extended Forelegs trait probably eliminates the penalty for doing so. Let me know if you agree with the ruling in the discussion thread.

So spider can lock with Agility or Power so that's 6D +1D for the Eight Legged trait. +1Ob for closing, and +1 Ob for Avoiding in the volley.

So, 7D 3, 5, 1, 6, 3, 6, 6 = 2 successes or 0 if you don't buy the Extended Forelegs thing.

In the first case, you get your full power for Natural Defenses.

Verrain

OK, abzu has spoken and the +2ob for Locking from optimal remains resulting in no lock that round.

Onto exchange 2!

For my first volley, Close: Lock, Lock

Tobias
02-17-2007, 07:05 AM
Well, staying in the net is dying, so my script is:

maintain: b reak lock (net), break lock (net)

rolling 4d for positioning, I guess, due to the net, I get: 5,2,2,1

The first break lock is at full power - I don't think anything is forkable, so that 4 dice for an ob 4 test? jay!

5,3,2,1

Your lock?

Verrain

So rolling my nine dice for positioning gets me 4, 2, 6, 3, 6, 3, 4, 6, 2, 2 = 5 successes so I am now successfully on the inside.

Now for my lock, 6D +1D for Eight legged Agility with the +1 Ob for closing.

3, 5, 6, 5, 1, 5, 5 = 4 successes. Roll your natural defenses.

Tobias
02-17-2007, 12:00 PM
4d nat def, 6,6,5,3. 3 sucs... so you increase your lock by 1.

My second attempt to break lock, 4d, 6, 5, 1, 1, would not be good enough to get off the net, but could it be used to reduce the lock of 1 you just added?

Verrain

Afraid not. Pg 179 of the monster burner under wrapping. A spider wraps its victim instinctively in silk on a lock. To escape from the web-lock requires the web to be cut, burned, or an Ob8 power test.

Now for my lock, 6D +1D for Eight legged Agility with the +1 Ob for closing.

5, 5, 4, 3, 4, 5, 3 = 4 successes. Roll for natural defenses.

Tobias
02-18-2007, 09:25 AM
Nat def: 3,4,5,3 = 2 suc. All locked up and no place to go!

Congrats - and good luck against the troll :)
