So this is the character that I have put together as the main villian for my campaign. He is an 8 Lifepath character (the other PC's are 6 lifepaths). He is a basic, powerhungry Politician who is trying to overthrown the council and establish himself as the king (or Maharaja since it is an Indian theme).

Concept: Power-Hungry Politician
Character Name: Anjun Dhanoa

Background: His father served under the Maharaja he was raised with the idea that Nobles were superior. His family was never pleased with the creation of the Council of Seven, and he sees the common born council members as an insult to his noble blood.

Lifpaths: Born Noble, Page, Squire, Knight, Duke, Duke, Duke, Courtier.

Age: 64

Traits: Mark of Privilege, Pragmatic, Sworn Homage, Noblesse Oblige, Rapier Wit, Regal Bearing, Pompous, Scheming

Notes: Main villain for a campaign, has 8 life paths while characters have 6 life paths.

Beliefs:
1. The Nobles rule by birthright, these upstarts have no place here
2. I must return the city to its former glory and I will do it as king
3. The key to destroying the council is through the heirs. If I can eliminate the heirs, the council will fall easily.

Instincts:
1. Always leave a room inconspicuously.
2. Put a spy on an immediate rival.
3. If an opponent shows weakness, exploit it immediately and do not hesitate

Wait... by my count, he should only have a mental pool of 11... 7 to start, one for squire, two for taking Duke the first two times, and one for courtier. that's 11. Grey costs you 5, which means he shouldn't have more than Per 3 Will 3.

I only caught this because I, too, am burning up someone with grey will.

Hell. I will have to double check this.. I could just fudge it because he is a villian, but that would be cheap.

Okay.. so yeah, I miscalculated the total mental pool for this character. As a GM, since his strength is suppose to be his debating and manpulation skills, how off base is it to simply assume that he might have advanced the attribute. What sort of liberties should a Burning Wheel GM take with things like this?

Ah, go for it. Book even says so!
