I may not have the advantage of the childbirth Steel die, but I've got a much bigger beard.

Also, Tim, could you PM me your email address? Mine is my username @gmail.com. I'd like to use the Irony Game email-based die roller, if you don't mind:

ETA: If you'd rather not fight someone wearing dwarven mail, by the way, I'm willing to change it to normal mail. It's well within the rules for my character, but I can see how it might be a bit overpowering. Just let me know.

I'm going to get pwned. I'm going to go with full leggings, if that's Ok. It will reduce my Reflexes and Speed to 3, but I don't want your dwarf to shorten me too easily. ;)

Yag, are those small axes throwing axes? Are you going to do initial positioning with them?

Tim

Speed of 3? Take a mount, man! Otherwise, why'd you take a B6 Riding?

Oh, I have a mount, but I told Yagathai I'd fight him on foot. Of course, I didn't think he'd be so cheap as to bring throwing axes. :D

If I'd had any sense, I would have stuck my extra point of mental stats into Perception to negate the -1d Speed for Reflexes AND I would have taken Sprinting Training.

This one does.

Roll 1: 1, 1, 1, 6, 3, 3, 1, 6 = 2 successes! Holy guacamole! We both start at Out of Range!

Not so fast! I have the Graceful trait which is a call-on for Speed maneuvers. I win the tie. We'll be starting at Lunging for my Poleaxe. Also, I can't believe you're using your knife! Insult to Injury! ;)

Tim

They are axes that I can throw, but as you see, I'm doing IP with a dagger as a throwing weapon.

Wouldn't do to hit a woman with an axe unless absolutely necessary, you know. Wouldn't be proper. What would my wife say?

Oh, in that case, let me change my exchange.

Absolutely. Hey, can we use the white text/quote thing? Cause I totally saw your exchange before I'd done mine.

TimP

Jesus. How do you make white text?

Yagathai

square bracket color="white" square bracket.

Er... my text looks white to me.

TimP

It is. I spoke too soon!

Looks like you're on the inside. Gah! The horror!

Yagathai
02-23-2007, 01:15 PM
What, just because I'm on the inside with a dagger that has VA, and you're using a polearm? ;)

Kublai

Ha! That was some prime cheating, Yagathai!

You positioned with the knife to get the bonus die of it being a ranged weapon, but you never had the intent of throwing it!

Then in one move, you went from optimal distance for throwing to the inside for stabbing!

::slow clap::

Thank you, thank you.

The way I like to see it is that I faked her out -- she thought I was going to throw it, but wasn't expecting me to abort my throw and go for the Inside.

Why Tim started at Lunging, though, I have no idea. That was exactly what I was going to start us at if I had won positioning. There's no effective difference between him at lunging and him at optimal, except for the +1 Ob on his part. My throw would have worked just as well at either range.

I was hoping to stay there after you'd thrown your knife. It was a dream.

Hmm. Refresh me, someone: Do natural defenses suffer from the +1 Ob for moving quickly?

Oh, so the fakeout worked. I'm so happy!

P154: "I'll say it again, natural defenses don't cost an action to perform: they are automatic!"

Moving quickly gives you a +1ob to all actions. Am I a cheater?

Yagathai
02-23-2007, 01:40 PM
Yeah, but you're my kind of cheater. ;)

You should post your ND roll anyway, so people know we're on the up and up.

I edited my original 'action' post with all the info.

You know, I really ought to start FoRKing things.

Not only did you fake her out, you faked the RULES out! And that deserves extra kudos.

I didn't know if I could pull it off -- dagger vs. polearm, without hurting Lady Camilla. That was a lot of fun, Tim. Thanks!

The 3 reflexes utterly crippled you, as did the lack of sprinting training. Shitty rolls aside, I could basically dictate positioning, and if The Arena has taught me anything, it's that positioning rules combat if you choose your weapons wisely.

TimP
02-23-2007, 02:26 PM
Yeah! Great panache with crippling (relatively) yourself! I was hoping the Graceful trait and polearm would be enough to offset my poor speed and lack of Sprinting Training, but...um....not even close. Maybe if I had gotten lucky on that first Great Strike things would have been a bit different, but otherwise she's doomed 99 out of a 100 times.

More or less. Turns out the dwarven mail was immaterial, and really the forge mask was just to end things faster. Odds are I would have gotten that lock eventually, and I could just keep charging to keep you on the ground.

I haven't heard anything from Jake about our match. Care to take on Bohemond (http://burningwheel.org/forum/showpost.php?p=35780&postcount=25)?
