I've been looking at BW's Mounted Combat rules a lot lately and remembered a rule from another game that I have that I always thought sounded very appropriate with regards to this style of combat, and more specifically the mounted, lanced charge. Instead of changing the characteristics of the spear in this circumstance, I think that you should just use the Power of the mount when calculating the damage delivered. I can see the rider's ability to stay in the saddle after getting hit, riding ability, and his ability to aim his lance all applicable; I don't however, see how the Power of the rider really plays a part in this action.
What do you all think?
i agree, the lanced charge rules need tweaking.

Could a calculation of speed and weight be more appropriate? I know it'd be mathematicaly clunky, but realism is what I like best. A mount's power doesn't necessarily play in directly.

Clunky is the key word here. I'm like you in that I like realism; go ask anyone on the HârnForum (http://www.harnforum.com/index.php?sid=4a393d660e21a7ab46249f1e7d882364), but let's not pull out the physics books yet. I think Power is a good representation of size, or in this case weight. Maybe Speed might somehow play a roll here as well, but keep in mind that in the real world these mounts were known for there size and strength, not for their speed. Therefore, I think that the system should reflect this reality.
