This is a player character for our Burning Wheel campaign called "The Governor's Daughter (http://erdtman.com/holken/burning-wheel/)." The game starts as the pirate ship where Patric is First Mate, and Jonathan the Master Helmsman, has just sunk one of the local governor's ships, and in doing so kidnapped the governor's own daughter and Marcel the ship's doctor.

We're playing a semi-historical game set in the Caribbean during the golden age of piracy 1670-1730. We're of course influenced by the Pirates of Caribbean movies, but want to turn the humor way down low, and are going for a much grittier and darker pirate-based game.

He who kills for profit deserves the gallows, and therefore I will make these pirates will pay with their own lives.

Always curious.
Never use deadly force.
When questioned, I intimidate.

Incomprehensible Diagnosis (C-O for Falsehood)

I'd love to hear your feedback, critique, advice, or ideas for cool bangs to throw at the kidnapped ship's doctor Marcel den Ouden.

Just curious about this--why 'infamous'? Is he not a good doctor? Or infamous because he is now with the pirates?

[ [list] I want the Governor's daughter's love, but for that I must first win the crew's respect.

Which crew? I assume the pirate crew...What is the Governor's daughter's relationship with the pirate crew? She's a captive, too, right? I would think she hates the pirates, and anyone who has the respect of the pirates must be her enemy as well. As a GM, I'd be wondering how is her love related to the pirate crew? It's probably ok if it isn't--it just means the doctor is fooling himself by thinking that impressing the crew will win him the girl. That actually would be kind of neat in play--especially once the Doctor realizes he can't win the girl by playing nice with the pirates. And since he'll be trying to make them pay for their crimes at sea, he and the Governor's daughter are natural allies.

Throw a bang at the doctor that there is another ship headed to the Antipodes or the Spice Islands that is looking for a ship's doctor. The new ship will certainly venture 'where no man has gone before'. See if he chooses the desire to see new things or the girl. Perhaps he tries to take the girl with him!

Infamous only because that's what the Ugly Reputation Trait specifies. Are Infamous Reputations really treated differently in the game?

Man I love your comments Mel, thanks a ton! Yes, it's totally Marcel fooling himself that by gaining the pirate crews' respect, the Governor's Daughter will be so impressed with him, she just must fall in love with him.

I'm so psyched to get this game rolling!

Excellent Mel, where do you get all your ideas. I'm so glad you decided to drop in and share your ideas on the characters for my upcoming game. Your feedback has already made my prep easier. Thanks again.

I have to look up the Antipodes and the Spice Islands though...

I'm happy to contribute! Antipodes generally means 'the other side of the world' or sometimes the Southern Hemisphere--but my point was simply give the doctor a choice between his desire to see new sights or his desire for the girl. See which he chooses...but expect the unexpected! The player may decide he can have both!

Thanks Mel, I understood your point, and it's a good one. I just didn't know what "Antipodes" meant. I'm dying to have a go at this game, and the player of Marcel seems very eager to have a go at it as well.
