I have a player with interest in Named Summoning, so I've been rereading the rules. There's one thing I can't quite figure out.

After you've summoned up the Named and figured out the base price, you start haggling. Eventually the deal is closed. Now, at this point, can the summoner say "no deal, that price is too high"? Or is he stuck with it by simple fact of the closed deal?

Also, if a Named is summoned without a Prison Circle, can they just laugh at the summoner and fly away into the world? I assume they are at least nominally interested in making deals, so they will listen to the summoner's pitch, but could they leave or attack if they wanted to? Assuming a corporeal summoning, of course.

If you close the deal, you're stuck with it. It's a mystic pack. I suppose you could bail out before the final haggling roll is made. But then you're stuck with an annoyed spirit hanging around your house. The spirit can remain if it chooses to -- for 555 days, right? If he's in a circle, it's not such a big deal, right? I mean, no one would touch the circle, right?

No Prison Circle means no restraints for the Named. The spirit can do as he so chooses -- doesn't have to listen to the summoner's offer or anything.

I suspected as much; that was the nastier of the two options. I do like the idea that while haggling you can reject the deal but get stuck with an annoyed spirit.

I notice there's no explicit way to banish a Named without Faith. If you had a Prison to hold them while you rang spirit chimes, would they have to retreat back through the gate?

Named Summoning seems like something that doesn't get used all that much. Does it tend to play out like that, or can it be used semi-often without completely screwing you over?
