As a general rule, when a lifepath requires you to have completed a previous lifepath, can you use any version of the stated lifepath?
For example, you can be a City Sergeant if you have completed a Guard lifepath. Does this have to be a City Guard lifepath, or does the Villager version suffice?
Specific examples I’ve found:
Craftsman: some lifepaths require “Apprentice Craftsman” – can any Apprentice of any setting be used to qualify? The village Apprentices and noble Apprentices have different skills/etc.
Priest: likewise, can any Acolyte grant access to any Priest lifepath (go from a village acolyte to a city priest, for example).
Cloth Dyer: can any apprentice be used to qualify for this? The village apprentices are very focussed, so I could see them not qualifying.
Banker: one prereq listed is “Merchant”. Does the Villager merchant qualify? I could see a No answer, since there might not be enough wealth in villages to allow progression to Banker.
Sergeant: the city sergeant has a number of prereqs listed. The village version has none. Should they have the same requirements?
Captain: can you get to the City Captain from the Village Sergeant, and the Soldier Captain from City and Village Sergeants?
Minister: Prereqs include Tailor and Merchant. As before, can the village versions of these lifepaths apply?
Chaplain: does the chaplain career count as a priest for purposes of prereqs (so could a Chaplain go to head Priest)?
Sea Captain: Engineer is listed as a prereq. Does a non-seafaring engineer qualify? I’m wondering if the non-seafaring engineer has the marine credibility to become captain?
Heretic Priest: prereq is listed as “a priest lifepath”. Is this supposed to be a “a religious lifepath”, allowing monks, abbots, prelates, and so on to become heretics?
