View Full Version : Summer Secrets 07
I am happy to announce that BWHQ will proudly continue our traditon of releasing a secret surprise project at GenCon this summer.
Anyone care to speculate what it'll be? (It's not the Magic Burner, joker. That one isn't a secret.)
I'll give you a hint: It does not contain any katanas or ninjas.
Preorders will be available sometime in June. We'll have secret surprise+t-shirt deals. Preorders will be, as always, signed and numbered. Preorders will receive a pdf of the supplement for free upon ordering.

Oooh... Artesia BW-style perhaps? ;) Kidding.
I'd personally love a Renaissance version of the BW Character Burner, so anything in that vein would float my boat.
Okay, how about a BW World Burner?

"It's not the Magic Burner"
sonnufabitch!
I have no clue what this is going to be. For all I know, it could be snagging the TMNT liscence from Palladium with the new burner being some freaky random mutant animal generator.
Oh wait, no ninjas...
Yeah, I got nothin.

Yeah, that's a double no-no: ninjas and katanas. Now the Robotech license on the other hand...

Ooohh, best news I've heard this year!

Hm. This probably rules out a martial arts mini-supplement (Burning Fists?), which would have been my first guess...
Meh. Even if its My Little (Burning) Pony, I shall gladly send some filthy lucre your way, Luke! :D

Looks back over the past crimes:
Serpent Sun, Jihad, Dark Elves...
Hmmm.
I'd say it was Burning THACO-related, but honestly, I think BW does that right out of the box. I don't see how a further supplement is necessary.

Exactly my thoughts Judd. No ninjas or katanas I think is a dead giveaway....its Burning HighSeas...the BW tuned specifically for booty snatchin', pistol balling, scurvy ridden goodness. PIRATES!!!
Although I like your Burning THAC0 hunch as well. Luke mentioned at MACE that he'd like to demonstrate for folks that regular 'ole old school gaming can run just fine in BW.

I made some lame jokes before, but I'll give my *REAL* guess/hope: A BW/BE variation for a late Renaissance / early modern style game (c. 15th to 18th centuries) with more emphasis on firearms (up through muskets and early rifles) and with magic optional. Something that would be designed specifically for pirate/swashbuckler/explorer/French-Revolution type settings/action.

I'm sure they'd get sued by the Cash estate, but surely if you want to go that route, the obvious one would be "Burning Ring of Fire: The Game of Music Stardom". Or, if you wanted to be cruder, "Burning Ring of Fire: The Game of Post-Spicy Food Indigestion".

Work has gotten crazy enough for me that I was honestly considering not going to Gen Con this year, but this announcement, along with the opportunity to see the BW gang again, makes it very difficult to resist clicking over to their site right now and purchasing a pass.
PS - My guess is for a Burning Kingdoms (a sort of a feudal style skirmish/warfare/political rules for BW along the lines of BE), but an Adventure Burner or Swashbuckling/Renaissance supplement sounds pretty cool too.

So it's something you guys probably playtested recently. I can't remember anything about your games that stood out...except you did that Earthsea game....Earthsea...water...pirates?!?!
It's not a full blown game.......hmmmm.....Renaissance works w/ pirates...
I'll give you a hint: It does not contain any katanas or ninjas.
Can you say it does not contain any cutlasses or pirates?
:)
I wish it would be the Campaign Burner or Adventure Burner, or Burning Kingdoms.
In any case, I will pre-order your precious little new secret, just because I like t-shirts and pdfs and BWHQ stuff in general.

using my investgative logic, i'm completely sure it has nothing to do with fantasy. BW is enough already that it covers all of the above be it samurai, pirates, earthsea stuff, adventure burner, etc.
since they just put out a sci-fi book, i doubt it's sci-fi, either. it's gotta be something modern-ish. maybe a little speculative fiction twist, but nothing more than that. along the lines of the 'under a serpent sun' setting but probably not as extreme.
maybe it's a BWHQ take on cops and robbers and internet and prostitution and drugs. kind of shadowrun done right.

Except is would be called Blazing Saddles, duh!
He rode a blazing saddle He wore a shining star
His job to offer battle To bad men near and far
He conquered fear and he conquered hate
He turned our night into day
He made his blazing saddle A torch to light the way
When outlaws rule the West And fear fills the land
A cry went up for a man with guts To take the West in hand
They needed a man who was brave and true With justice for all as his aim
Then out of the sun rode a man with a gun
And Bart was his name, yes Bart was his name
