Just wondering what the RP cost is for spells. The book and the Burner worksheet disagree (one is based on Ob while the other is based on syllables).
Also,
Love this web resource and the fact that new rules / varients are published here. Given the extensive data set of player and GM experiences to the BW system that have instigated the wealth of varients and new rules, is there a plan on publishing more for the BW line? Any schedule I can look forward too? Is there a plan to revise the 1st printing with new rules?
Thanks

The base cost for spells is determined by Obstacle and intent.
- Fixed Obstacles cost 2 pts per base Obstacle. For example, Wolf Snout is Obstacle 4 and costs 8 pts.
- Open-ended Obstacles cost 4 pts per base Obstacle. For example, White Fire is Obstacle 3 (i hope!) and costs 12 pts.
- Fixed-range Obstacles cost 2 pts per the Average Obstacle. For Example, Mage Light has a Range of 1-10 (I hope!), thus the average Obstacle is 5. This makes the cost for the spell 10 pts.
- Obstacles based on a Target's Stat cost 10 pts to buy. For example, Persuasion's base Obstacle is based on the Will of the target. Since you don't know that number when you are creating the character, always use an exponent of 5 and multiply x2.
- Elf Spell Songs and Orc Hate Spells are opened at a cost of 2 Skill pts per song, and then advanced with skill points as normal.
These costs apply to all self-created Abstractions, as well.

There are several books in development as I write this. First and foremost is the Monster Burner, which includes monsters all ready to go, plus a very detailed theory section for creating your own BW monster. This section talks about topics that apply across the BW universe, so it's totally worth reading.
The second book is a BW Annual that will contain all the new rule variants, lifepaths, traits, and anything else appropriate.
Then, there is the Magic Burner, two chapters of which are already available in the Download section. Unfortunately, neither is Enchanting. :(

Cool... post while just getting out of work and get answers by the time I'm home :)
If the RP cost is based on Ob... someone should revise the note under spells in Character Burner Worksheet.
Thanks

We aim to please here at BW.org! :D
someone should revise the note
I've been burning characters so long I never noticed the mistake! And by "someone," you must be referring to Luke because there is no one else! :D

Yeah... we were burning our first characters last weekend. The guy that wanted to play a Sorcerer was stopped dead in his tracks by this one. We'll probably finish his character this weekend.

Make sure to check out the Abstraction Chapter in the download section! It's a must for Sorcerers! It's certainly for the long-term sorcerer because if he doesn't get those facets now, he'll regret it later on.

Not to toot my own horn, but I think this thread does a good job of walking a person through the sorcerer burning process.

This one shows how flexible one can be with the lifepaths and how a non-traditional sorcerer might look like.
