I don't know if I'm just completely missing something here, but I'm having trouble making this click, so hoping for some clarification.

So, a character with honor may present a feat of valor. From what I'm reading, the presenter gets a Fate point for presenting it and an honor test. They earn a persona if the feat is successfully undertaken (do you get Fate AND Persona?).

Then, there's a "Feats of Shame" heading with no description of what a Feat of Shame is, only that the presenter earns a Shame test. Is that all tied in with a feat of valor? So, you get an honor test, a shame test, and some artha for presenting a feat of valor?

Or is a feat of shame something different since it's a separate heading?

It's all one thing. The presenter presents the feat. He earns a Fate point for this. If someone undertakes the feat and succeeds, the person who presented the feat gains a Persona point in addition to the Fate point he already earned.

In addition, the presenter earns an Honor test equal to the Obstacle of the feat he presented and a Shame test equal to 10 minus the obstacle of the feat presented.

The undertaker of the feat gets an Honor test equal to the obstacle if he succeeds, or an Ob 3 Honor test for attempting it if he failed. At the end of the session he also earns a Reputation with a value dependent on the obstacle of the test.

And in case it's not clear, think about what all that means.

1. It is in your interest to present feats.

2. It is in your interest to present achievable feats (so you can earn a Persona).

3. It is in your interest to make the feat very difficult (to keep the Shame test you earn low).

Cool, thanks for the clarification, but one more thing...

The undertaker of the feat gets an Honor test equal to the obstacle if he succeeds, or an Ob 3 Honor test for attempting it if he failed. At the end of the session he also earns a Reputation with a value dependent on the obstacle of the test.

Is that always Ob3? What if you fail at an Ob2 feat of valor? The example mentions an Ob6 feat, then says you get Ob3 honor test if you fail. I figured from that maybe it was just supposed to be half if you fail.

Ah HA! It took this explanation to make that Shame test part click. Very cool.

Thanks, Thor.
