In the previous thread "Misc. Battle Map Questions" the following was stated:

Draw two positions on the map, say a wall and a hill. The hill is 2P, 1C, the wall is 1P, 1C. The hill on the left and the wall on the right. Draw a field in between. The field is no man's land and the positions are adjacent to one and another.

If the upper part of the map was the objective and the lower part was the starting area for my group is it possible (although maybe not the best) to advance into no man's land as opposed to advancing to the hill or wall?

IIRC you only Advance onto positions. You'd Flank to move into NML.
