After running a game this weekend I made a ruling about a sustainer matrix I thought i would run by some minds here and see what some others think. The rules say that as long as a sustainer is in contact with a mage that the spell cast is of course, sustained. So add to this equation a staff with Turn Aside the Blade, and an understandable wizardy instinct to always clutch your staff.
So lets say our magic wielding friend gets into a rather nasty combat with some friends. He pops off a TAtB that's sustained by his staff, and gets a nice roll of say 6 successes. He then does his best for the group, and passes out hard, face first into the dirt, clutching his staff. So since the character is passed out from tax, does this mean that the sustainer can keep the spell up or does it fizzle? I'm torn between what seems like a decent bit of common sense, and the amusement of a gang of orcs all trying to bash on a passed out sorceror only to be laughed at by other PCs. Of course if he's by himself he could always hope the orcs get bored after about 3 hours as well. :P
