OK, so superficial wounds raise the obstacles needed by one while other wounds reduce dice. But simple probability shows us that so long as you are rolling more dice than the number of obstacles needed it is better to roll fewer dice than to require more sucesses. This means that in most cases, a superfical wound is more harmful than a light wound. Is this intentional?

Yes. Somewhere the "second wind" is explained. Basically, Superficial wounds hurt like heck but aren't that mechanically debiliating to your tendons and muscles and what-not. Being wounded at the Midi level is just past the breakpoint where your body starts blocking the pain so you can function long enough to go get help -- which you promptly abuse to stay in the fight and keep swinging. :)

That makes sense. Thanks
yes.
i really believe (and designed the game to emulate) that the small stuff hurts A LOT.
One of the reasons it is important not to remove dice is artha and stances. When spending artha to open 6s, you can open them even if those successes would have be "discounted" by the +1 Ob.
Also, 4 dice with a Superficial wound doubled is 8. That's statistically different than 4 dice with a Light wound doubled -- 6 dice.
Stances are affected as well. 4 dice in aggressive stance gets you 6 dice. 3 dice in aggressive stance gets you 5.
And, as Blackberry said, Superficials don't knock you unconscious.
So while it may seem that Superficials are statisically more detrimental, but there are other nuanced factors at play.
hope that helps,
-Luke

I had kind of thought that that was the case. I can see where the small cut that bleeds into your eyes (but will close up a few minutes after the fight) is more immediately debilitating than the broken cheekbone that will take weeks to heal and bother you all that time. Just wanted to make sure that I was reading it right when I thought that.
Thanks for a great game.
